General Hospital (GH) spoilers for the week of December 29–January 2 reveal that the ABC soap has released its latest preview, which focuses on a special tribute episode honoring the late Anthony Geary, best known for his iconic role as Luke Spencer. Here’s what to expect.
Honoring Luke Spencer & Anthony Geary
GH’s weekly promo opens with scenes of Luke standing at the docks in Port Charles. A voiceover then invites viewers to tune in for a special encore episode celebrating the “unforgettable legacy” of Tony Geary and Luke Spencer.
The preview concludes with Luke looking off into the distance as he emotionally says, “Goodbye, Port Charles.” These moments are taken from Geary’s final appearance on the show.
The tribute episode is a rebroadcast from July 2015, marking Geary’s last full episode of General Hospital before his retirement from acting.
Although Luke briefly appeared again in May 2017—when Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) reunited with him in Europe and planned a trip to Amsterdam after leaving Port Charles—the July 2015 episode truly served as Luke’s final farewell on the ABC daytime drama.
GH will air this special episode in its usual ABC timeslot on Thursday, January 1.
Anthony Geary’s Legacy on GH
Anthony Geary passed away at the age of 78 on Sunday, December 14, and fans, colleagues, friends, and family continue to grieve the loss of a true television legend. He first arrived in Port Charles in 1978 as the complex and compelling Luke Spencer, quickly becoming a fan favorite.
Luke and Laura Collins (Genie Francis) went on to define the term “super couple” in daytime television. Their November 16–17, 1981 episodes still hold the record for the highest-rated hour in U.S. daytime drama history, with an estimated 30 million viewers tuning in.
Throughout his time on General Hospital, Geary earned a record-breaking eight Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Luke Spencer.
