Coronation Street actor Tony Maudsley admitted he was left “furious” after the age of his on-screen character, George Shuttleworth, was finally revealed. Despite the frustration, Tony has since received plenty of support from his fellow cast members.
Tony, now 57, joined Coronation Street in 2020 as George Shuttleworth, who was later established as the son of Weatherfield undertaker Archie Shuttleworth, portrayed by the late Roy Hudd.
After Archie’s passing, George stepped in to run Shuttleworth’s Independent Funeral Directors on Tile Street. He also brought in his longtime friend Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) to work alongside him as his trusted right-hand man.
In 2022, George’s family grew even further with the arrival of his sister Glenda, played by Jodie Prenger. A former cruise ship entertainer, Glenda quickly won over viewers, largely thanks to her warm and entertaining bond with her much-loved brother.

During Monday’s episode of the ITV soap, which aired on December 29, Glenda was shown getting ready for what appeared to be her birthday celebration at the Bistro, just weeks before George’s 60th birthday.
However, as the scene played out, it became clear that the gathering was actually an early celebration for George’s milestone birthday, rather than an event marking his younger sister’s special day.
After the episode aired, Tony shared his reaction on Instagram, joking that he looks far too young to be portraying a 60-year-old character. He also posted a striking selfie alongside his co-star Jodie Prenger, who is 46 in real life.

Tony gently rested his cheek against Lucy’s head as they posed with smiles for the camera.
In the caption, he quipped: “So Glenda’s 50 and George is 60!!! These Corrie writers clearly hate us because neither of us looks a day over 28!! #Corrie.”
Their co-star Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd Grimshaw, chimed in on the post, joking: “This is a hate crime!” and added two heart-eyed emojis.

Daniel Brocklebank, who portrays Billy Mayhew, joked: “Happy 80th darling x”, while Catherine Tyldesley, known for playing Eva Price, chimed in: “My faves xxx.”
One fan commented, “Lovely photo of you both! Best on-screen siblings ever,” while another added, “Two ages that neither of you are anywhere near, obviously.”
“You know, I was thinking the same thing,” admitted another fan.
