“BBC Breakfast presenter blocked while trying to reveal Coronation Street spoilers live on air”

Posted on January 5, 2026

“On Monday, BBC Breakfast hosts Jon Kay and Emma Vardy tried to uncover Coronation Street spoilers”

BBC Breakfast presenters Jon Kay and Emma Vardy sat down with the casts of Coronation Street and Emmerdale ahead of Monday’s landmark Corriedale episode.

ITV revealed last year their plans for a one-off soap crossover special, merging the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale for the first time in a feature-length programme titled Corriedale.

The historic broadcast will also mark the launch of ITV’s new “soap power hour” scheduling format for both flagship dramas.

On Monday’s BBC Breakfast, Jon and Emma were joined by Coronation Street’s Julia Goulding (Shona Platt), Emmerdale’s Isabel Hodgins (Victoria Sugden), and Iain MacLeod, the executive producer overseeing both shows and Corriedale.

During the interview, Emma found herself repeatedly blocked when trying to tease exclusive details, according to Bristol Live.

The host asked, “Can you give us any sneaky hints about what’s coming, just to tease people a little?”

Iain replied with a laugh, “Erm… I can feel the press officer’s eyes on me as we speak!”

Emma shot back, “Come on, we’re trying to get a scoop!”

Iain held firm: “I don’t want to give too much away. Honestly, if you know nothing about either show, you can just tune in and enjoy it. I’m not a fan of spoilers.”

Emma then turned to Julia and Isabel, asking about the difficulty of keeping plot details secret.

Isabel explained her usual reply to curious fans: “Oh, if I tell you, it’ll ruin it. Let the surprise happen on air!”

Emma cheekily added, “I’m using all my journalistic skills here!”

Talking about Corriedale, Isabel revealed, “This was all kept very secret,” and Julia added, “Yeah, definitely—very cloak and dagger!”

Later in the chat, host Jon tried to stir up some soap rivalry, but it didn’t quite land.

He asked, “Was there any rivalry between the Corrie cast and Emmerdale?”

Julia replied firmly, “No, I wouldn’t say so!” to which Jon teased, “Oh, come on!”

Julia went on to explain, “No, I think both shows worked together like one big family. Coming together, we just formed one giant family, and that’s basically how we all felt.”

Iain shared his take: “I got the sense everyone was really keen to impress their counterparts from the other show. If anything, it pushed everyone to raise their game—professionally and in their acting. Everyone was at the top of their game. It was a real joy to watch.”
