“Coronation Street’s David Platt actor Jack P. Shepherd teases surprising departure after 25 years”

Posted on January 5, 2026

“Coronation Street actor Jack P. Shepherd left Good Morning Britain hosts stunned when he joked about quitting the ITV soap after 25 years during tonight’s dramatic Corriedale crossover episode.”

ITV’s Coronation Street star Jack P. Shepherd left Good Morning Britain hosts stunned when he seemingly hinted at major spoilers for his character’s future on the long-running soap.

The actor, best known for playing David Platt, is among the stars appearing in tonight’s highly anticipated crossover episode with Emmerdale.

The special Corriedale episode airs at 8pm, with ITV promising a gripping hour that will shake up both the Cobbles and the fictional Yorkshire village. Fans have been speculating wildly about which beloved characters could face a shocking fate.

Jack appeared on Good Morning Britain alongside Chris Bisson to tease what’s coming in the crossover. Presenters Susanna Reid and Ed Balls were left wide-eyed as Jack seemed to hint that his iconic 25-year tenure on the show may be coming to an end.

Speaking about potential deaths in the episode, he said: “People go and my number has come up. I’ve done 25 years. It would have been great to see the rest of 2026. But sadly tonight is the end. Have I given too much away there?”

“I have, haven’t I?” he continued, leaving a surprised Susanna to ask, “Is that true?” The hosts breathed a sigh of relief when Jack revealed he was just joking, with Susanna adding: “I could feel ITV bosses breathing down our necks,” according to the Liverpool Echo.

Tonight’s spectacular crossover begins at 7pm with half-hour segments of both shows, leading into the main event at 8pm. Back in October, the Coronation Street and Emmerdale cast and crew spent three weeks filming on an abandoned road near Harrogate, Yorkshire.

Claire Sweeney, one of the episode’s featured stars, shared some behind-the-scenes insights with the Echo last month about the explosive storyline.

She reflected: “I think this is a piece of history. You look back at the tram crash on Corrie or when the aeroplane came down on Emmerdale—those were landmark moments in soap history, and this is the same. Something like this has never happened before.”

Claire, who plays Cassie Plummer on Coronation Street, added: “It’s not just a regular episode where we stroll into the Woolpack or Emmerdale strolls into the Rovers—it’s epic.”

Julia Goulding (Shona Platt) gave fans a glimpse of what’s in store for the Corriedale premiere, telling the Echo: “It’s something that will change a lot of people’s lives forever.”

While the details of the storyline remain tightly under wraps, ITV has released a thrilling trailer ahead of the episode.

Following a dramatic multi-vehicle crash, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) takes charge of the situation, while a distressed Carla Connor (Alison King) is seen trying to calm someone down.

Injured Shona and David Platt (Julia Goulding and Jack P. Shepherd) receive roadside help from Emmerdale paramedic Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant). At the same time, Corrie’s trainee paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) teams up with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) to assist other victims.

Expectant mothers in both shows become caught up in the unfolding chaos. Charity Dingle, played by Emma Atkins, is seen trying to help a distressed Shona at Hotton General Hospital.

As the trailer builds to its climax, Kevin and Abi Webster (Michael Le Vell and Sally Carman-Duttine) are shown desperately searching for Debbie among the wreckage. Meanwhile, a distraught Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) calls out for Aaron, with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) by his side in the darkness.
