Coronation Street star delighted as he celebrates milestone, with fans flooding in with support

A Coronation Street star has shared exciting news on Instagram

A Coronation Street star has said he was “chuffed to bits” after marking a special milestone, with fans quick to show their support.

Tony Maudsley, who plays George Shuttleworth on the long-running ITV soap, first appeared on the cobbles in 2020. His character was introduced as the son of Archie Shuttleworth, played by the late Roy Hudd.

Archie was a well-known local undertaker who ran Shuttleworth’s Independent Funeral Directors on Tile Street, a business George now manages following his father’s death.

George’s life in Weatherfield expanded in 2022 when his sister Glenda, portrayed by Jodie Prenger, arrived on the scene. A former cruise ship performer, Glenda now works behind the bar at The Rovers alongside returning landlady Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) and the Driscoll family.

More recently, George has embarked on a romance with Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), just months after he handled the funeral arrangements for her partner, Dom Norwood (Dominic Rickhards).

The couple are now living together at number eleven, with Christina also starting work as a cleaner at the undertakers.

Taking to Instagram on Monday (January 5), Tony shared some exciting news after George and Christina were voted fans’ favourite new Coronation Street couple of 2025.

Posting a smiling photo of the pair, Tony wrote: “A huge thank you to all the listeners and subscribers of @conversationstreet for voting George and Christina your favourite new Corrie couple of 2025. Myself and @amylouiserobbins_ are absolutely chuffed to bits. To celebrate, we’ll be offering free brass handles on all coffins throughout January!”

Fans were quick to flood the comments section with messages of support. One viewer wrote: “Great photo of you both! I love George and Christina together – your characters make such a brilliant couple.”

Another fan commented: “A very well-deserved win. Long may they stay together,” while a third added: “Love seeing you both together. Christina has really grown on viewers – such a lovely couple.”

A fourth echoed the praise, writing: “Congratulations, you really do make a great couple – both fantastic characters,” while someone else shared: “You have such great on-screen chemistry. Love George and Christina.”

Christina hasn’t always been a firm favourite with Corrie viewers. She previously landed herself in trouble after catfishing Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) by using Dom’s name on a dating app, later convincing the real Dom to help persuade Jenny to invest £60,000 in a business he was selling.

Tony’s update comes shortly after the explosive Corriedale crossover between Coronation Street and Emmerdale, which aired on Monday night. The dramatic hour-long special featured the deaths of Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), the shock return of Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), and the revelation that Dales legend Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) has been diagnosed with cancer.
