“Emmerdale’s Michelle Hardwick and her wife share heartbreaking news, prompting an outpouring of support from fans.”

“Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick and her wife Kate Brooks have made a heartbreaking announcement online.”

Emmerdale’s Michelle Hardwick has received an outpouring of support after sharing some heartbreaking news.

The actress, who joined the popular ITV soap in 2012, is best known for her role as village vet Vanessa, the half-sister of Tracy Metcalfe (played by Amy Walsh). Over the years, she has been central to numerous major storylines.

Off-screen, Michelle is happily married to her wife, Kate Brooks, a relationship that began on the set of Emmerdale. Kate is an accomplished TV executive who previously worked as a series producer on Emmerdale before taking over as producer of Coronation Street in 2024.

Michelle and Kate started dating shortly after Michelle’s first marriage ended in 2017, and in 2019, the couple celebrated their wedding with a beautiful ceremony in Memphis.

The couple are proud parents to two children: a son, Edward “Teddy” Peter Brooks, born in 2020, and a daughter, Betty Brooks, born in November 2022, according to The Mirror.

However, on Tuesday (January 6), Michelle shared the heartbreaking news that their beloved pet had passed away. She posted a photo of their dog, Fred, on Instagram, confirming the sad news.

She wrote: “Our hearts are truly broken tonight, our home doesn’t feel the same. Our Fred, our protector, lost his fight this morning. We were blessed with seven incredible years with this little guy — such a warrior.”

In another heartfelt tribute, Michelle added: “No more suffering now. Run free, our beautiful Fred. You’ll be missed more than you’ll ever know, but we’ll talk about you every single day. We love you so, so much.”

Following Fred’s passing, Michelle’s followers quickly filled the comments with messages of support, including many from her soap co-stars.

Amy Walsh, who plays her on-screen sister, wrote: “Awwww babe, I’m so sorry!!! Sending you so much love. Little Fred.” Coronation Street star Tina O’Brien also shared her condolences: “I’m so sorry to hear this. Sending you all my love.”

Natalie Ann Jamieson, who played Amy Wyatt, added: “Ohh, I’m so sorry, guys. Sending lots of love.”

Meanwhile, a fan expressed their sympathy, commenting: “Oh Michelle, I’m absolutely devastated for you all. This news has really upset me. Sending love. Rest easy, gorgeous Fred.”
