Coronation Street viewers are likely to recognise the actor playing new character Dr Vincent Harper from his past TV and film work
Coronation Street has introduced a new character to the cobbles, and fans are sure to recognise the actor behind the role.
As regular viewers will recall, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) recently underwent complex surgery in a desperate attempt to save her baby daughter, who has a neck mass.
Shona, her husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), and other Weatherfield residents, including Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), were caught up in a dramatic car crash in a recent episode of Corriedale.
Although David and Shona survived, the situation became more serious when Shona’s waters broke prematurely, prompting an urgent return to Weatherfield for emergency medical care.
In Wednesday’s episode (January 7), David and Shona were alarmed to discover that the specialist surgeon scheduled for the operation was unavailable, having been stranded abroad, according to the Mirror.
Filling the gap was Dr Vincent Harper, who had travelled all the way from Bristol to Weatherfield to carry out the procedure. Despite his prompt arrival, a worried David and Shona remained unsure about his abilities.
During the procedure, Dr Vincent Harper had to perform a tracheostomy to help the baby breathe after encountering problems with the original tube. Fortunately, both Shona and her newborn were reported to be stable following the operation.
Dr Harper then explained that specialists would attempt further surgery at a later date to remove the mass from the baby’s neck.
For John Hollingworth, the actor portraying newcomer Dr Vincent Harper, this isn’t his first time in front of the camera. The television veteran has built up an impressive résumé with numerous TV shows and films over the years.
From 2015 to 2017, John Hollingworth played Captain Henshawe in the BBC drama Poldark. He also appeared alongside Martin Clunes in Doc Martin between 2011 and 2017, portraying Professor Sam Bradman.
His TV work also includes roles in Call The Midwife, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Beyond Paradise, and Vera. Crossing over to film, John appeared in the 2017 Hollywood blockbuster Transformers: The Last Knight, playing the character Tristan.
