“Coronation Street’s real-life couple appear loved-up as they give a glimpse into their private life”

Posted on January 8, 2026

“Coronation Street star Rob Mallard has been in a loving relationship with his co-star boyfriend for several years.”

Coronation Street star Rob Mallard has delighted fans by sharing a glimpse into his personal life with his actor boyfriend.

Rob joined the ITV soap in 2016, playing Daniel Osbourne, the son of Weatherfield legend Ken Barlow (William Roache). Over the years, his character has been involved in several dramatic romantic storylines.

These have included his marriage to Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn), who tragically died in October 2019, and more recently, his entanglement with manipulative predator Megan (Beth Nixon), who has been grooming teenager Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale).

Off-screen, Rob’s love life has also drawn attention, particularly his high-profile breakup with Coronation Street veteran Daniel Brocklebank, who played Billy Mayhew.

Currently, Rob is in a relationship with fellow actor Matthew Martin. The couple made their romance public at the British Soap Awards in 2023, according to the Mirror.

Matthew is also an actor and made a brief appearance on Coronation Street last year, playing a police officer who apprehended Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) during a dramatic scene.

On Wednesday (January 8), Rob delighted his Instagram followers by sharing adorable photos from Matt’s birthday celebrations. The Coronation Street actor reposted Matt’s original Instagram story to his own account.

The collection included sweet images of the couple enjoying Matt’s special day, including snapshots from a winter stroll. Matt captioned the post: “Birthday shenanigans… Thanks all for the Birthday Wishes!” Rob’s Corrie co-stars quickly joined in, filling the comments with birthday messages.

Lisa George, who plays Beth Tinker, wrote: “Omg! Happy birthday, angel! Same day as my nephew xxx.” Sally Carman, known for portraying Abi Webster, added: “Happy, Happy Birthday, lovely!” Meanwhile, Vicky Myers, who plays Lisa Swain, commented: “Happy birthday x.”

Before his relationship with Matt, Rob was romantically linked to fellow soap actor Daniel Brocklebank, who has played Weatherfield’s vicar Billy Mayhew since 2014. The couple went public with their romance when Rob won the British Soap Award for Best Newcomer in 2017.

During his acceptance speech, he affectionately said: “Even though this is fantastic, Dan, you’re the best thing I’ve ever taken home.”

However, within a few months, Rob and Daniel had split, citing the challenges of working together on the show while maintaining their relationship.
