Coronation Street actor auditioned for a major role before being cast as villainous Megan

Posted on January 13, 2026

Beth Nixon from Coronation Street has revealed how she nearly quit acting and her journey through auditions before securing her role as Megan.

Coronation Street’s Beth Nixon, who plays Megan, has revealed that she nearly landed a different role on the popular ITV soap.

Beth first appeared on screens late last year as the athletic coach for young Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale), who had recently moved from Hull to Weatherfield with his family. This included his father Ben (Aaron McCusker), grandmother Maggie (Pauline McLynn), and Ben’s girlfriend Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley), who returned to the street after a seven-year absence.

It was later revealed that Megan had been grooming 16-year-old Will for months before his move. Their secret relationship has gone unnoticed, leaving Will’s family unaware of Megan’s true intentions.

Megan has also settled on the cobbles, securing a job at Weatherfield High School. She has even started a romance with fellow teacher Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), much to Will’s frustration and jealousy.

In Monday’s episode (January 12), while getting her son Bertie’s house ready for his upcoming birthday, a smitten Daniel invited Megan to the party, and she accepted, according to the Mirror.

As expected, Megan’s character has sparked plenty of reactions from viewers. However, for actress Beth Nixon, this wasn’t the first role she auditioned for on the soap. In a previous interview, Beth spoke about landing the Corrie role and admitted she was moved to tears when she learned she would be joining the cast.

In an interview with York College, Beth revealed that the casting team had been aware of her work after seeing her perform in several productions at her drama school, the Arden School of Theatre in Manchester.

Beth also shared details about her audition history, saying: “I had actually auditioned for Corrie twice before — both times as a villain, of course — including for the role of Lauren.” The part of Lauren eventually went to actress Cait Fitton, who made her debut in 2022 and has remained a regular on the show ever since.

Beth went on: “Then, earlier this year, my agent sent me a casting brief and explained it was for a paedophile — which is a pretty intense role to play, as it’s obviously not a redeemable character, so you can really push the boundaries.”

After submitting a self-tape, Beth was invited to do a chemistry test with the other actors being considered for the role of Will. She then performed a scene on set at The Bistro, and it seems the producers were very impressed with her performance.

Before joining Corrie, Beth was working as a skin clinic manager. Recalling the moment she learned she had landed the role, she said: “I was at work when my agent called. I was upstairs while a colleague watched the desk, and when he told me I’d got it, everyone in the clinic could hear me screaming my head off. Then I cried — it’s been four years since I graduated, and this is my first TV role.”

She added: “It’s been a tough time, and I was really close to quitting, having a normal job and exploring a different career. So this opportunity came at exactly the right moment, just when I needed it.”
