Actress Sheila Bernette shared the screen with stars such as Sir David Jason and Leslie Crowther during her career, and also appeared on the iconic BBC variety show Good Old Days.

Actress Sheila Bernette has passed away at the age of 94.
She is remembered for playing Sister Delaney on Coronation Street in the early 1970s, where her character treated Weatherfield legend Elsie Tanner after a taxi accident. Sheila also appeared on the long-running BBC variety show Good Old Days from 1968 to 1983
A statement from the Royal Variety Charity said: “Sheila will be greatly missed by all who worked with her, as well as by the wider theatrical community.”
Fellow actor Peter Kosta paid tribute to his “very good friend,” describing her as “very funny” and “very feisty.” He also recalled their first meeting while working together on a play with Only Fools and Horses star Sir David Jason.

“I was looking for digs, and Sheila said, ‘Well, if you’re clean, I have a spare room in my house.’ She always supported me in everything I wanted to do and came to see me whenever she could. I have extremely fond memories of her,” recalled Peter Kosta.
Squid Game: The Challenge star Lee Taylor added: “Very sad to hear of the death of actress Sheila Bernette, aged 94. A wonderful TV performer and so closely linked with @playerstheatre. Rest in peace, Sheila — thank you.”
Sheila was also one of the original practical jokers on the UK version of Candid Camera and showcased her singing talent on the BBC’s prime-time light entertainment show, The Black and White Minstrel Show.

Bernette also performed at the 1970 Royal Variety Performance, where Leslie Crowther introduced her as Russian defector ballerina Natalia Nokemova. She performed The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
CBBC viewers will remember her as Mrs Poshington in Hotel Trubble, a hotel guest who never leaves, a role she played from 2008 to 2011.
Her other television credits include The Queen’s Nose, Two of a Kind, Butterflies, The Little and Large Show, and Agony Again. She shared the screen with comedy legends such as Morecambe and Wise, Dick Emery, and Tommy Cooper.
Bernette’s film appearances include Car Trouble (1986), Three for All (1975), and Driving Aphrodite (2009)—also known as My Life in Ruins—which was her final film role.
