Former Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews has revealed her first new role since departing the ITV soap last autumn
Former Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews has shared an exciting new career update following her departure from the soap.
The 55-year-old actress is set to join the cast of Here & Now: The Steps Musical as it tours the UK and Ireland later this year. Sally will take on the role of Patricia, replacing Finty Williams when she steps into the part later this month. This marks her first project since leaving the ITV soap last autumn.
Here & Now: The Steps Musical is a feel-good production built around the hit songs of pop group Steps, following Caz and her friends as they set off on a summer filled with romance and adventure.
Sally is scheduled to perform at 15 venues, including York, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Canterbury and Blackpool.
Matthews first appeared on the cobbles as Jenny Bradley in 1986, returning to the role at various points before her final exit in October 2025.
While she is best known for her work in soap operas, Matthews has also appeared on stage in UK touring productions of Mum’s The Word, The Business of Murder, Present Laughter and Killing Time.
She will now join the cast of The Steps Musical, alongside West End performers Lara Denning and Jacqui Dubois, who play Caz and Vel.
The musical originally debuted in November 2024, with its UK tour set to begin in August 2025.
The production is built around the music of 90s pop legends Steps, who achieved two UK number one singles and four chart-topping albums.
The group, best known for hits including Tragedy and Stomp, are widely considered one of Britain’s most successful pop acts of all time.
Steps is made up of Lisa Scott-Lee, Claire Richards, Ian “H” Watkins, Faye Tozer and Lee Latchford-Evans.
The band developed the musical in collaboration with theatre company ROYO and music producer Pete Waterman.
Matthews will join the touring cast of Here & Now: The Steps Musical from January 23, when the production arrives at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre.
The show will continue its nationwide tour until May 16, 2026.
