BBC Strictly Come Dancing professional talks about double date plans with partner

Posted on December 16, 2025

Strictly Come Dancing pro Julian Caillon has spoken about his strong friendship with EastEnders’ Balvinder Sopal

Strictly Come Dancing star Julian Caillon has revealed plans for “double dates” with his fiancée and his dance partner, Balvinder Sopal.

Following her record-breaking run, which saw her survive the most dance-offs in Strictly history, the EastEnders actress left the competition last weekend.

She narrowly missed out on reaching the final, being eliminated after a dance-off against Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin, who will now compete for the Glitterball Trophy alongside George Clarke and Alexis Warr, as well as Karen Carney and Carlos Gu.

During Monday’s It Takes Two appearance with presenter Fleur East, Balvinder shared her wish to continue dancing with Julian.

“I really want to,” Balvinder began. “I don’t know where to go, Jules. Can I just come see you every week and we can have a dance?” reports Wales Online.

Julian replied: “Of course! We actually talked about it beforehand. We love doing the Argentine Tango, and with Leo and Maria, our choreographers, we discussed doing a double date with our partners, so I’m sure we’ll keep dancing.”

Elsewhere during their BBC Two appearance tonight, Balvinder and Julian — a newcomer to the Strictly professional lineup — reflected on their experience in the competition.

When asked what she would say to her week-one self after making it to the final four, Balvinder said: “I think she’d be doing somersaults, like, ‘Wow, you actually did it! Not only did you say yes, but you reached the semi-final and made it to the last four.’ I’m super, super happy and so proud.”

Reflecting on his first impressions of his dance partner, Julian shared: “When we first met, we got stuck in a room together for five hours, and during that time, everything I thought about Bal came true. I thought she’d be someone who had my back, someone I’d have a great connection with, and that we’d share lots of laughs — and that’s exactly what happened.”

He added: *“I didn’t expect us to get this far, and that’s not a reflection on Bal — it’s more about me going into my first season. I wasn’t sure I fully believed in myself to take us there. But credit to Bal, because I’ve never had this much confidence in myself as a dancer, and that’s all thanks to her and the encouragement she’s given me.

“And, of course, thanks to Strictly too — the magic of Strictly. I wasn’t sure if dancing was really my path in life, but now I know it is, and that’s down to my experience with this incredible woman.”*
