Coronation Street’s David Platt ‘unveils’ secret brother – and viewers already know him

Posted on January 20, 2026

Coronation Street viewers are convinced they’ve cracked the mystery behind the latest DNA twist

Coronation Street fans are convinced that David Platt has a secret brother, more than 25 years after his first appearance on the soap.

In recent episodes, Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) has believed all his life that Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is his older half-sister. However, in a dramatic twist, Debbie—who is living with dementia—revisited a memory box and discovered an old hospital bracelet confirming Carl’s birth and revealing that she is actually his biological mother.

Since the bombshell revelation, viewers have been speculating about the identity of Carl’s biological father, with some suggesting it could be Terry Duckworth, who was on the show during Debbie’s original time in Weatherfield.

Because Carl was born after Debbie left the Street, fans believe the timelines don’t add up, making it unlikely she was already pregnant when she departed. However, other viewers think the father could still be someone she became close to, whether the pregnancy happened before or after she left Weatherfield.

Corrie fans are now speculating that Martin Platt (Sean Wilson) could be Carl’s biological father, which would make the troubled character a half-brother to David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd).

Debbie originally lived on the cobbles from June 1984 until January 1985, before leaving Weatherfield and later returning in 2019.

Martin Platt arrived in January 1985, meaning there could have been a short overlap between the two characters before Debbie’s departure.

Sharing their theory on Facebook, one Coronation Street fan wrote: “Debbie Webster worked briefly in Jim’s Café after leaving school before moving away. Around the same time, Martin Platt was also there. So could he be Carl’s dad?”

A second fan commented: “Yes, I saw something about Martin returning,” while another asked: “Isn’t Martin Platt coming back?”

One viewer added: “I saw a video on Instagram the other day of Martin Platt learning his lines and saying he was on his way back to the Street.”

Another joked: “He must be a tall man—Debbie is so short, and Carl is really tall!”
