Emmerdale viewers are sure they’ve figured out why Graham is back as the mystery around Ray’s death begins to unfold

Emmerdale has launched flashback week, featuring a series of gripping episodes that piece together the events leading up to Ray Walters’ murder.
Monday’s tense episode (January 19) centered on Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy), who had been in a relationship with Ray (Joe Absolom) before he was killed by a mysterious assailant.
Laurel was warned about Ray’s criminal activities by teenager Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle), who had been exploited by the drug dealer.
Shaken and disappointed that she had allowed Ray into her home, Laurel rushed to check on her children’s safety, only to be met by Arthur Thomas (Alfie Clarke).

“I will never let Ray in this house again, I promise,” Laurel told her son, but her resolve was tested when Ray soon appeared at her front door, leaving her terrified.
At another point in the timeline, Laurel ended her relationship with Ray.
“Whatever we had is over,” she told him before slamming the door, though flashbacks later showed that she had previously allowed him into her home.
After murdering his mother, Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths), Ray turned up at Laurel’s, begging her to listen as he admitted he was involved in drug dealing.
“I’m sorry I never told you before, it’s not exactly something we advertise, is it?” he said, showing no remorse for his actions.

“I’ve lived a dodgy life, Laurel. I’ve done a lot of bad things—not for fun, not because I wanted to, but because I had to,” Ray confessed. “I hated myself for it. And then… then I met you.”
As their conversation continued, Ray reflected on his traumatic childhood with a hesitant Laurel, who eventually persuaded him to leave.
Pleading with Laurel not to involve the police, Ray convinced her to let him go. As they said goodbye on her doorstep, Arthur watched closely. Ray later made a call demanding a new passport and documents so he could escape the country.
Carrying a bag full of cash, Ray attempted to drive out of the village, but Arthur confronted him, visibly furious. After Ray knocked Arthur down and mocked him, Arthur grabbed a rock, ready to strike—but Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) observed the tense moment from his car. The question remained: would Arthur hit Ray, or would Graham intervene?

In a major twist, Emmerdale fans are speculating that Graham and Ray were linked through the criminal underworld, with Graham potentially helping Ray escape.
One fan tweeted: “Graham could have done it, or maybe Graham runs the whole trafficking operation, or he’s helping Ray? He’s clearly involved in something, otherwise he wouldn’t be in this episode. #Emmerdale”
Another added: “It would be a brilliant twist if Graham turns out to have been Celia’s enforcer, rounding up runaway victims. Honestly, no one thinks Celia and Ray managed the whole racket alone. Ray just called Graham to sort his dodgy passport #Emmerdale.”
