“The Emmerdale actor paid tribute to a member of his on-screen family, praising her warmly.”
Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock has paid a heartfelt tribute to his co-star Amelia Flanagan, who portrays April on the soap.
Mark, who has played Marlon for 30 years, stars alongside long-serving cast members such as Lisa Riley and Jeff Hordley on the ITV series.
Amelia has also been part of the show for several years, having joined the cast back in 2014 when she was just four years old.
Reflecting on working with her as she’s grown up, Mark praised his young co-star during an appearance on Lorraine.
“It’s more than just a working relationship — you must feel like part of her family,” Lorraine Kelly said.
Mark responded: “Her family are incredible, and I feel really lucky to have them in my life too.
“You often see young actors join shows, but it’s rare for them to stay on long-term — they’re usually recast later on.
“Amelia has just gone from strength to strength. Watching her grow, both as a person and as an actress, right before my eyes has been incredible. It’s been truly extraordinary to see her talent develop.”
He added: “I’m so lucky to work with her.”
Last year, Amelia was overcome with emotion as she accepted the award for Best Young Performer at the British Soap Awards.
Her brother William had also been nominated for his role on Coronation Street, and she paid a heartfelt tribute to him during her acceptance speech, saying: “This means everything. I just want to say my little brother, who I love so much.”
She went on to thank everyone at Emmerdale before concluding: “Thank you so much — this means the world to me.”
Amelia has taken part in several challenging storylines, including a particularly harrowing plot in which April went missing and ended up living on the streets after discovering she was pregnant.
“It was an incredibly tough and heavy subject to tackle, but also a really important and relevant issue that needed to be explored,” she said.
“We still had so much fun filming it, and it honestly became one of the highlights of my career — I loved every moment. Seeing the positive response it’s received means so much to me, and it’s amazing to hear.”
