Roy is speaking to a mysterious character called Alice on Coronation Street, with spoilers hinting at a major shock for the long-time star.
Coronation Street spoilers have confirmed the true identity of Roy Cropper’s pen pal, Alice — and it doesn’t bode well for him.
The much-loved character, played by David Neilson, first appeared in 1995 as the neighbour of Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) in a block of flats. He quickly became a fan favourite.
Over his 30-year tenure on the long-running soap, the café owner has been at the centre of numerous major storylines, most notably his marriage to Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh). The couple got together in the late 1990s and became one of television’s most adored pairings before Hayley’s tragic death in 2014.
Recently on the soap, Roy has been exchanging letters with a woman named Alice as part of a pen pal scheme. However, in Wednesday’s episode (January 21), it was revealed that Roy had actually been messaging an unknown man.
The mysterious figure, sporting a beard, was shown reading through the message thread to Roy. While many fans have been left puzzled about the person’s identity, spoilers for next week have now confirmed who they are.
Next week, a lovestruck Roy sends Alice a bouquet of flowers. However, later in the week, he is visited by a man claiming to be Alice’s husband — who appears to be the same person Roy had been messaging.
The following day, Roy discovers the electricity in his flat has been cut off and calls an electrician for assistance. Both Nina and Roy are stunned when the tradesman arrives and is revealed to be Mal.
Spoilers also reveal that next week, Mal encounters Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove), who is dealing with her own grief. At the Chariot Square Hotel, Bernie takes another shot and orders a whisky.
Mal joins her at the bar and, after introducing himself, confides that his wife has been having an affair. Bernie opens up to him, but when Ryan Connor steps in, insisting they’ve had enough and asks them to leave, Mal invites Bernie up to his room. Will she accept?
