“BBC presenters left stunned as Coronation Street actor reveals unusual injury fans missed”

Posted on January 23, 2026

“Coronation Street’s Lewis Archer star Nigel Havers stunned BBC Morning Live hosts by revealing a ‘strange’ injury.”

BBC Morning Live presenters Holly Hamilton and Rav Wilding were left amazed by a former Coronation Street star’s unusual injury revelation during Friday’s episode.

In the latest instalment, Holly and Rav chatted with actor Nigel Havers, who played Lewis Archer on and off between 2009 and 2019. His long career spans numerous television roles, including appearances in Finding Alice, The Gentlemen, Brothers and Sisters, Dangerfield, The Good Guys and Don’t Wait Up.

Nigel’s film credits include playing Dr Rawlins in Steven Spielberg’s 1987 war drama Empire of the Sun, as well as Ronny in David Lean’s 1984 classic A Passage to India.

The 74-year-old joined Friday’s show to promote his second touring production, which is billed as: “Join me, a stage, and a lifetime of gloriously ridiculous stories. Expect the full Havers experience – charm, wit, and absolutely no running in slow motion.”

While talking about what audiences can expect, Nigel looked back on his time filming the British classic Chariots of Fire, which earned him a BAFTA nomination for his role as Lord Andrew Lindsay, reports the Mirror.

However, Nigel left presenters Holly and Rav completely stunned when he revealed an on-set accident from the film that he had kept hidden for years.

He explained: *“When I made Chariots of Fire, we were trained to be proper athletes. We worked with a trainer for five months, and I had to learn how to hurdle.

“I could run when I was at school – I was pretty good at it. But when I looked at hurdling, I thought, ‘That looks really uncomfortable.’ Still, I had to master it because that was the character I was playing.”

He continued: *“I was showing [co-star] Ben Cross how well I’d improved about ten days before filming began, and I clipped the final hurdle. I put my hand out to break the fall and ended up dislocating my shoulder and breaking my wrist.

“But I couldn’t tell anyone because I was worried that if they knew about the broken wrist, I’d be dropped from the film. So it healed on its own – in a very strange way.”

Nigel then rolled up his sleeve to show how the wrist had healed, leaving Holly visibly shocked as Rav exclaimed: “So that’s still there today?” Holly added: “Is that because you just ignored it and tried to let it heal by itself?” – which Nigel confirmed.

The actor went on to reveal: “I’ve completely lost feeling in my thumb and other parts – but nobody’s ever noticed!” prompting the presenters to joke: “Until now.”
