Emmerdale fans are only now realising where they’ve seen DS Walsh actor before

Posted on January 27, 2026

Emmerdale viewers will be seeing plenty of DS Walsh as she probes Ray Walters’ murder and a string of village crimes

Emmerdale has delivered a run of explosive episodes recently, driven by the actions of villains Ray Walters and Celia Daniels.

Viewers will remember that Ray and his mother Celia wreaked havoc in the village last year, targeting teenagers April Windsor and Dylan Penders and forcing them into horrific acts to repay so-called debts. At the same time, the pair held Bear Wolf prisoner at his farm in a disturbing modern slavery storyline.

Bear, along with several other victims, was made to work off fabricated debts on the farm and, despite Ray’s manipulation, formed a close bond with him.

However, episodes last week saw the ITV soap unfold a gripping whodunnit focused on Ray, who killed Celia earlier this month. In Thursday’s episode, Ray remained determined to escape the village and begin a new life elsewhere.

As Paddy Kirk prepared to contact the police, Ray began making threats against young Eve, leaving both Paddy and Dylan distressed as they struggled to decide what to do. The episode ended with Ray in Paddy’s living room, hurling violent threats at the pair.

In a shocking twist, Bear unexpectedly returned to the village after previously being declared dead by Celia, stunning Dylan, Paddy, and Ray.

During a fierce confrontation, Bear fatally attacked Ray while trying to protect his son Paddy and Dylan, despite their desperate attempts to stop him.

Following the explosive scenes, Paddy and Dylan formed a pact of silence, helping a distraught Bear cover up and conceal the killing.

In Tuesday’s episode, Paddy was left on edge after running into DS Walsh, who revealed that police were keen to question Celia in connection with Ray’s murder. Making sure she was well out of earshot, Paddy passed on the seemingly positive news to Dylan — but the situation quickly took a dramatic turn when he realised Bear, overwhelmed by guilt and confusion, had fled from his hiding place.

DS Walsh, who first appeared in Emmerdale in 2025, is set to feature heavily in upcoming episodes as she continues her investigation into Ray’s murder and the farm trafficking operation. The role is played by actress Amanda Ryan.

As the drama unfolds on screen, fans have been surprised to recognise Amanda, 54, from previous roles. Back in 2007, she appeared in EastEnders as Verity, the sister of Mad May (Amanda Drew), before going on to play Carrie Rogers in Shameless from 2007 to 2009.

Amanda’s TV credits also include playing Scarlet Wren in Casualty, before later returning to the series in 2024 as a different character, Carrie Melanie Sinclair. Her other roles include Lettice Howard in Elizabeth and Vera Campbell in Britannic.

Emmerdale viewers have been left surprised after realising where they had previously seen Amanda on screen. One confused fan asked: “Can someone remind me where I’ve seen the actress who plays DS Walsh before?”

Another responded: “She was in Shameless and Casualty,” while a third added: “I knew I recognised her from somewhere!” A fourth echoed the sentiment, writing: “Same here.”
