Beloved EastEnders star reveals new role after continuing feud

Posted on January 29, 2026

Walford could see major upheaval as local businessman Ian Beale takes a daring step

EastEnders’ local businessman Ian Beale and boutique hotel owner Elaine Peacock have been locked in a fierce feud, each determined to outdo the other.

As regular viewers know, tensions between Elaine (played by Harriet Thorpe) and Ian (Adam Woodyatt) escalated when Elaine publicly criticised the food at Kathy’s café.

Determined to defend his mother, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), a furious Ian filed an official complaint with Councillor Barker (Iain Fletcher) over the garish sign outside the Peacock Palace, demanding it be taken down.

However, Ian’s plan spectacularly backfired when Elaine discovered Councillor Barker’s secret affair with his assistant and struck a deal of her own.

The councillor agreed to ignore Elaine’s questionable planning permission in return for using her hotel as a secret meeting spot for his clandestine affairs, reports OK!

Earlier this week, George Knight (Colin Salmon) invited his ex-wife Elaine for a drink at The Vic. Elaine hoped to reignite their romance, but her plans quickly backfired.

George gently told Elaine that he and Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) are expecting a baby, leaving a furious Elaine to lash out at a nearby Ian—who did not take kindly to her outburst.

In another act of retaliation, Ian, a stalwart of the show since 1985, tipped off the local paper after seeing Barker and his mistress enter the hotel. The resulting photo made the front page, costing Barker his job.

In a dramatic twist, Elaine collided with Kathy’s car, leaving Kathy with a sore neck and furious at being caught up in Ian’s ongoing feud.

On Wednesday (January 28), Elaine approached the Beales to offer an apology and try to make peace.

However, as the episode unfolded, it became clear that the rivalry was far from over. Ian revealed his plan to run for the council seat left vacant by the disgraced Barker.

With a smug smile, he warned Elaine that once he becomes Walford’s councillor, he intends to make it his mission to shut down Peacock Palace for good.

EastEnders viewers are urging Ian to let go of his feud with Elaine. One fan vented on social media: “Can this Ian and Elaine drama just end already? #EastEnders.” Another added: “Ian seriously won’t quit bothering Elaine #EastEnders,” while a third joked: “The constant back-and-forth between Ian and Elaine though #EastEnders.” One intrigued fan wondered: “Hmm, is Ian planning to run for the council again? #EastEnders.”
