EastEnders newcomer Alice Haig stepped into the role of Vicki Fowler last year.

Alice Haig joined EastEnders last year, stepping into the role of Vicki Fowler. While landing a part on the long-running BBC soap is a major milestone, it’s perhaps no surprise, as talent clearly runs in her family.
Before Alice, now 40, took on the role, Vicki Fowler was played by Scarlett Alice Johnson, who exited the show in 2004. With the character now back on Albert Square, viewers may find Alice looks strikingly familiar.
While some may recognise her from earlier television roles, others have noted her strong resemblance to her well-known father. Alice is the daughter of David Haig, the respected actor and playwright best known for playing Bernard in Four Weddings and a Funeral.
As well as writing several acclaimed stage productions, David has built an impressive screen career with a wide range of notable roles and has been awarded an MBE for his services to the arts.
Now aged 70, he has starred alongside Rowan Atkinson in The Thin Blue Line and appeared in major TV series including Doc Martin, The Thick of It, and Downton Abbey.

One of David Haig’s most notable roles came in the acclaimed series Killing Eve, where he played Bill, the trusted spy colleague of Sandra Oh’s character, who was ultimately killed in a brutal encounter with Jodie Comer’s assassin, Villanelle.
David is married to Julia Gray, who performs under the stage name Jane Galloway, and together they have five children: Alice, Caroline, Fred, Harry and Connie, according to The Mirror.
Following in her father’s footsteps, Alice trained at RADA and has already built a strong television résumé. Her previous BBC roles include playing journalist Sophie in the comedy Rain Dogs and appearing as a nurse in This Is Going to Hurt. She also secured a role in the Disney+ Star Wars spin-off Andor, before being announced as the new Vicki Fowler on EastEnders.
When her casting was confirmed, Alice said she was excited to explore Vicki’s character and bring a new perspective to the role after the character’s long absence from Albert Square.

Speaking about her casting, Alice said she was thrilled to be joining the soap, explaining that she has watched EastEnders for as long as she can remember and even shares the same birth year as the show, having been born in February 1985. She described it as exciting to take on a character like Vicki Fowler, noting that while viewers may feel they already know her, much has changed, and she is looking forward to the drama to come in Albert Square.
It has been reported that Scarlett Alice Johnson was offered the opportunity to return as Vicki but chose to turn it down, instead expressing her happiness for Alice stepping into the role.
A spokesperson for Scarlett told The Sun that she was pleased to be asked back but felt the timing was not right to reprise the character, adding that she wished Alice Haig and the programme every success.
