“Coronation Street actress Claire Sweeney, who has portrayed Cassie Plummer since 2023, is set to leave Weatherfield after securing a new role.”

Claire Sweeney is leaving Coronation Street.
The actress, who has played Cassie Plummer since 2023, is departing the ITV soap to join the UK stage tour of Annie this summer as Miss Hannigan.
A Coronation Street spokesperson confirmed the news to The Sun: “We wish Claire every success in playing Miss Hannigan and congratulate her on landing a role she has long dreamed of.
“Cassie will remain on the cobbles until the summer, continuing to make her mark in Weatherfield ahead of a memorable exit storyline.”

According to the report, Claire informed Coronation Street bosses of her plans to leave the show last year. A source said: “Claire loves Corrie, but she has always dreamed of playing Miss Hannigan.
“At first, they hoped she could manage both, but the length of the tour made that impossible, so she made the tough decision to step away.
“She gave the team plenty of notice, which allowed them to craft an exciting and dramatic exit storyline for her.”

Reports say Claire will continue filming Coronation Street until the summer before joining the stage production of Annie. She will take on the role of Miss Hannigan from July 7, performing in cities across the UK.
Tour stops include Blackpool, Cardiff, Bristol, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Dublin, Nottingham, Hull, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Truro, Cheltenham, Stoke, Crawley, Belfast, Aberdeen, Woking, Bradford, Oxford, Sunderland, Southampton, Norwich, Wolverhampton, Sheffield, Glasgow, and Leicester.
Reflecting on her time joining Corrie, Claire said: “Even though I’ve been fortunate to enjoy a varied career for nearly 40 years, being cast in Coronation Street felt even more exciting than being cast in a Hollywood movie!”
Before her stint on the cobbles, Claire played Lindsey Corkhill on Channel 4’s Brookside from 1991 to 2003. She has also appeared on reality shows including Dancing on Ice (2024), Strictly Come Dancing (2004), and Celebrity Big Brother (2001).
Stage work is not new for Claire either—she has performed in productions such as Chicago, Guys and Dolls, Legally Blonde, and Tell Me on a Sunday.
