ITV Emmerdale viewers ‘figure out’ the only villager who can save Moira — and it’s not Bear

Posted on February 3, 2026

Emmerdale fans think they’ve worked out the only villager who can save Moira Dingle — and it’s not Bear Wolf.

It has been a tense few weeks in the Dales, following the departures of villains Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) and Ray Walters (Joe Absolom). The mother-and-son pair had exploited youngsters April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) and Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle), and even held Bear (Joshua Richards) captive on their farm.

After months of terrorising the village, Celia and Ray’s reign finally ended last month. On New Year’s Day, Ray stabbed his mother to death in their kitchen, shortly before Bear killed him when he tried to murder Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt).

As the investigation into Ray’s murder continues, Moira (Natalie J Robb) has come under suspicion due to her business dealings with Celia. The ITV stalwart was arrested last month after Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) planted identification documents in her home, though she was later released pending further investigation.

The drama escalated last week when two bodies were discovered on Moira’s property. In Monday’s episode (February 2), now available to stream on ITVX, DS Walsh (Amanda Ryan) confirmed that the remains belonged to Celia and her former servant Anya Berisha (Alia Al-Shabibi).

Moira and her husband, Cain (Jeff Hordley), were soon arrested for murder in front of their children. At the police station, Cain stayed silent during questioning, while Moira insisted she had been set up by Celia. She was later shocked to learn of Celia’s death.

Panic set in for Moira as DS Walsh outlined the evidence against her, including DNA found on the blanket in which Anya had been buried.

With the case mounting, DS Walsh confirmed that Moira would face charges for the murders of both Celia and Anya. “You can’t do this! I have no idea who this Anya is, for starters,” Moira protested.

In emotional scenes, Cain struggled to hold back his emotions as Moira was taken into custody ahead of her court hearing the next morning. Will she be able to clear her name?

After watching the emotional scenes, many Emmerdale fans are convinced that one villager could help Moira avoid prison. While some think Bear could provide key evidence, others believe that PC Swirling (Andy Moore) could play a crucial role in her defence.

The local police officer, who first appeared almost 22 years ago, has been involved in numerous major storylines over the years, catching many of the village’s villains and getting to know the residents well.

Fans therefore believe that Swirling could be the ideal witness to support Moira’s case. One person wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Where’s PC Swirling? He’ll believe Moira and Cain because he knows Moira wouldn’t do something like this.”

A Reddit user added: “WHERE IS PC SWIRLING!! That man has been involved in every minor incident in Emmerdale for decades, yet so far he hasn’t been part of the big trafficking and drugs storylines. That man has earned his stripes — get him involved!”

Another fan commented: “He’d do a lot better than DS Walsh. He wouldn’t assume Moira was guilty in the first place,” while someone else said: “Swirling has to be a witness and defend Moira on the stand. The jury would be more likely to trust a working police officer.”
