A Coronation Street actor has revealed they are leaving the popular ITV soap
A Coronation Street star received an outpouring of support after announcing their departure from the ITV soap. Actor Andrew Hayden-Smith joined the cobbles earlier this year as Pete Lang, who featured in the hard-hitting storyline involving Theo Silverton and Todd Grimshaw.
The 42-year-old, also known for Byker Grove and Hollyoaks, has confirmed he is leaving the hit ITV series, with his final scenes already broadcast.
Sharing his farewell on Instagram, Andrew posted a collection of photos from his time on the cobbles, writing: “Happy 65th Birthday @coronationstreet. So unbelievably proud to have walked on your illustrious cobbles earlier this year. Here’s a little #BTS.”
Responding to comments, one fan asked, “Are you still in Corrie?” to which Andrew replied, “All done now.” Meanwhile, his other 63.7K followers quickly voiced their support for the actor.
One person wrote, “Love a bit of Corrie. So happy for you,” while another added, “You’re going to go places, Andrew, with Corrie on your CV… I love these pics… especially the last one of Ena Sharples… brings back childhood memories.”
Another follower commented, “You were brilliant, even if only for a short time. We need you back,” prompting Andrew to respond with a praying hands emoji.
Elsewhere, one fan said, “You are amazing,” and another suggested, “Bring him back @coronationstreet. Make him someone’s long-lost son or pair him with Todd after the Theo storyline ends. Come on Corrie, you know you want to.”
Andrew’s character Pete on Coronation Street featured in the intense domestic abuse storyline involving Theo and Todd, which took a darker and more sinister twist earlier this week.
Theo deceived Pete by claiming he and Todd were in an open relationship. He then manipulated Todd further, even inviting Pete over for dinner and encouraging him to flirt.
But Theo soon gaslit Todd, accusing him of crossing boundaries and flirting too much with Pete.
Andrew first gained fame on Byker Grove as Ben Carter in 1996, a role he played until 2003. He later worked as a CBBC presenter from 2002 to 2006, hosted UK Top 40 from 2004 to 2005, and made guest appearances on Blue Peter, Doctor Who, and This Morning.
More recently, Andrew has been involved with PAW Patrol and appeared on Hollyoaks as DS Armstrong from 2016 to 2017.
