EastEnders actress Tracy-Ann Oberman discusses Chrissie Watts’ return to Walford on Christmas Day and her character’s stalking obsession with Zoe Slater.

Tracy-Ann Oberman has revealed that Chrissie Watts became “obsessed” with stalking Zoe Slater. Last night, viewers saw the iconic EastEnders villain make her dramatic return to Walford after being away for a week.
However, Chrissie’s comeback isn’t going to be welcomed by everyone in Albert Square. For months, Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) has been terrorised by an anonymous stalker, pushing her to the edge. Initially, she suspected Anthony Trueman before turning her suspicions toward her own family member, Jean Slater.
Unbeknownst to Zoe, the stalker was actually Chrissie, working alongside her secret daughter Jasmine (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) — whom Zoe had abandoned at birth, believing her dead. Tracy-Ann Oberman relished the chance to return and torment Zoe.
Ultimately, Chrissie’s character is driven by a strong sense of justice, having spent 20 years in prison for the murder of Dirty Den, a crime for which Zoe escaped punishment

“Ben and I were keen to keep Chrissie’s return a total secret, so I’m thrilled that my comeback was kept under wraps,” Tracy-Ann Oberman told the Mirror.
She added: “I think Chrissie has always felt it’s incredibly unfair that she spent 20 years in prison and has never truly been able to move on from the trauma of Dirty Den and life in Walford. When the chance arose to have an advantage over Zoe Slater — who she’s always found to be a bothersome little girl — she jumped at it. She clearly has plenty of time on her hands!”

Reflecting on her character’s tough exterior, the Brent-born actress explained: “Chrissie, while being very hard and formidable, has a strong sense of justice. In her mind, Zoe never truly paid for Den’s murder or for the role she played in destroying the Watts family. What started as a game for Chrissie has grown into a bit of an obsession, and discovering this beautiful daughter — who was also hurt by Zoe — seemed like an opportunity she couldn’t pass up. I also think she genuinely cares for Jasmine.”
Chrissie and Jasmine appear to have formed a deep bond, with Tracy-Ann describing the teen as the “daughter she never had.” She added that she wanted to empower Jasmine to seek revenge on Zoe.
