Kelvin and Liz Fletcher were back on screens on Sunday with their Christmas special, Fletchers’ Family Farm at Christmas, which saw them travel to Austria for the festive season.
*ITV star Liz Fletcher has opened up about her husband Kelvin’s idea of the “perfect woman,” admitting that she doesn’t quite fit the description.
The couple, who share four children—Marnie, Milo, Maximus and Mateusz—returned to TV screens on Sunday (December 28) with their Fletchers’ Family Farm at Christmas special.
Best known for running a farm in the Peak District, the family headed to Tyrol, Austria for the festive season to experience alpine farming life. During their stay, they were hosted by the Achrainer family, who have decades of farming expertise.
In one segment of the programme, Liz teamed up with the family’s matriarch, Martina, for a baking lesson. Together, they made Bauernkrapfen—also known as farmer’s doughnuts—using fresh produce from the farm, according to Cheshire Live.*
*Liz was left in awe of Martina’s skills, remarking as they worked together: “She doesn’t measure anything—she just knows. She feels it, she has a sense for it.”
Martina then revealed that farmers’ wives in the area sell the doughnuts, explaining that they typically make around 500 pastries in total.
The baking session prompted Liz to joke: “I’m good at eating, not so great at cooking. I do my best—I once even burnt the kettle.”
Reflecting on the experience later, Liz told viewers: “That was so fascinating. It’s lovely to see they have such a strong farmer’s wife tradition, and that they keep it alive by cooking to celebrate.”
She then added with a laugh: “That’s probably Kelvin’s dream woman—a farmer’s wife. But he ended up with me, and I can’t cook.”*
*The couple have known each other since childhood, first meeting when they were around eight years old. However, romance didn’t spark until they reconnected as adults in 2009.
They married in 2015 and are now parents to four children. In 2021, they swapped city life for the countryside, embarking on a new farming adventure.
Reflecting on their time on the farm, Kelvin said: “What a year it’s been. As we’ve entered our fourth year of farming, we’ve completely fallen in love with this way of life.”
The Emmerdale actor went on to add: “But farming isn’t always smooth sailing, and this year we’ve faced some major challenges.”
The past year has been especially difficult for the family of six after a devastating fire tore through their farmhouse.*
