Emmerdale’s Celia actress looks just as she did in her iconic role over 20 years ago

Posted on December 29, 2025

Emmerdale actress Jaye Griffiths, who plays Celia Daniels, has built an impressive career over the years

Emmerdale actress Jaye Griffiths joined the ITV soap earlier this year as the villainous Celia Daniels.

Her character, revealed to be Ray Walters’ mother, has been running a sinister drug operation in the village, putting several residents in danger.

Ray and Celia have been exploiting Dylan Penders and April Windsor, claiming it’s to repay their so-called “debts,” but in reality grooming them into drug dealing.

The storyline took an even darker turn when Celia forced April to take part in two prostitution jobs. April refused to sleep with the clients and ended up attacking one of them.

April believed she had killed the client, allowing Ray and Celia—who knew the person had survived—to manipulate the teenager even further.

As Celia and Ray’s storyline intensifies on Emmerdale, viewers may be curious about where they’ve seen actress Jaye Griffiths before.

One of Jaye’s earlier roles, at age 62, was in the spin-off series Weirdsister College from The Worst Witch, where she played Jenny Wendle from 2001 to 2002. Now, more than 20 years later, Jaye hasn’t aged a day.

She appeared on an episode of SMTV Live in 2001 alongside Cat Deeley, Dermot O’Leary, and Louise Redknapp to talk about Weirdsister College. The actress explained why magic series and films are so popular, saying: “Everybody loves magic and we’d all like to be able to go like that,” as she clicked her fingers.

She added when asked about her ideal superpower: “I’d like to be invisible so I could go anywhere and do anything!”

Jaye is also well known for her roles as Ros Henderson in the BBC series Bugs and D.I. Sally Johnson in the ITV police drama The Bill.

Her other credits include Elizabeth Croft in the BBC soap Doctors, Janet Mander in Silent Witness, Elle Gardner in Casualty and its spin-off Holby City, and Yavalla in The Outpost.

Jaye has also made guest appearances in rival soaps, playing Helen Stritch QC in EastEnders in 2015 and Nicola Taybarn QC in Coronation Street in 2011.
