Emmerdale actor Jay Kontzle has given fans an exciting update about his career
Emmerdale star Jay Kontzle has confirmed a new movie role, in addition to continuing his portrayal of Billy Fletcher on the ITV soap.
The 35-year-old actor joined the Dales as Billy in December 2018, making a memorable entrance at his mother Jessie’s (Sandra Marvin) wedding to Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock).
Billy later found love with Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley), and the couple married in 2022. The following year, he adopted his stepson, Lucas, and became a special guardian to Clemmie.
In 2023, Dawn and Billy welcomed their son, Evan, into the world. Tragically, when he was just four months old, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
Last year, Dawn began an affair with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), which ultimately shattered the family.
As a result, Billy was forced to leave Home Farm and start a new life on his own, including taking a job in the warehouse at Caleb Miligan’s depot.
Emmerdale fans were left worried for Billy after he was absent from the screen for three months, but he returned in October 2025 following news that Lucas had gotten into a fight at school with Carl, son of Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler).
Outside of the ITV soap, Jay Kontzle has confirmed he will star in a new short film called Codec.
The film’s official Instagram account shared: “Entering the chat is Jay Kontzle @jkontzle as our DC Green. We’re thrilled to work with him and can’t wait to see how he brings this character to life with his versatile talent!”
Jay Kontzle shared the news on his Instagram story on Wednesday (January 7).
Codec is a short crime film, and the official synopsis reads: “After being cyber-flashed by a boy she trusted, Sophie spirals into a whirlwind of lies and pixelated retaliation. Who will believe her when the law outdates the net?”
Speaking about his role in the film, Jay said: “I’m very excited to be part of something really special, thought-provoking, and relevant to the world we are fast moving into,” according to the Codec film Instagram page.
