After 30 years, Emmerdale exit sealed as soap teases fresh murder mystery

Posted on January 11, 2026

Emmerdale audiences are convinced the village is on the brink of another shocking murder

Since the start of the new year, Emmerdale has featured the deaths of Celia Daniels, Ray Walters, and John Sugden, and fans are now predicting that another murder could be on the way.

In recent episodes, the shocking crimes of Celia (Jaye Griffiths) and her son Ray (Joe Absolom) were revealed, including drug trafficking, sexual exploitation, and forced labour in a modern slavery storyline.

Ray killed his abusive mother by stabbing her in the back, but only hours later, he was also dead, and the identity of his killer remains a mystery.

Meanwhile, Ray’s body has been confirmed to be hidden in the back of Jai Sharma’s (Chris Bisson) lorry, which is parked at Caleb Miligan’s (William Ash) depot.

While the villagers remain unaware of Celia and Ray’s fate, Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) is scheming to take control of Butler’s Farm, using Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) to carry out his plans.

After discovering some suspicious documents and items at Celia’s house, Joe decided to plant them at Moira Dingle’s (Natalie J. Robb) home as part of his scheme.

Previously, Joe had already blackmailed Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) and her brother Robert into handing over their farm after secretly filming Victoria killing John (Oliver Farnworth).

He then escalated his devious plan, instructing Robert that Moira needed to be framed by planting the documents at her property.

Joe explained that framing Moira would get her into trouble with the police and pressure her into selling her farm to him for a favourable price. This way, he and Kim Tate (Claire King) could finally acquire the land they had been scheming to obtain for so long.

To ensure the plan went ahead, Joe offered Robert money and a job if he planted the evidence himself. Initially horrified, Robert refused, but later seemed to reconsider, knowing they needed the cash.

Eventually, Robert did plant the evidence in Moira’s home. Shortly after, Kim informed both him and Joe that Celia had been exploiting their farm for forced labour. Fans are left wondering: will Moira face prosecution for a crime she didn’t commit?

As Joe’s plot to seize Butler’s Farm begins to unravel, some Emmerdale viewers suspect he could meet a deadly end, having made enemies in the village yet again. Could Joe be killed off 30 years after his introduction?

On Reddit, one fan speculated: “Joe. Does anyone else think this latest storyline, trying to set Moira up, is going to lead to him being killed and another whodunnit?”

Another fan wrote: “I SO WANT HIM KILLED OFF PLEASE. He’s driving me crazy,” while a third commented on X: “#Emmerdale Please, someone take Joe out. I can’t stand his smug face!”

“Robert, there’s only one way to fix this—you’re going to have to kill Joe. #Emmerdale,” another added.

“Can someone just get rid of Joe already? He’s such a snake. #Emmerdale,” urged one viewer.
