Coronation Street: Becky Swain’s future unveiled in latest ITV soap update

Posted on January 13, 2026

Coronation Street delivered a major update on Becky Swain in Monday’s episode.

Coronation Street’s Lisa Swain and her daughter Betsy were left feeling relieved on Monday night following a major update about Becky Swain.

Last year, Lisa and Betsy were stunned when Becky Swain returned from the dead. Becky had been believed to have died in 2021, and in the meantime, Lisa had moved on, starting a relationship with Carla Connor.

The couple had even bought a home together to raise Betsy as a family.

However, Becky made a dramatic return last year, revealing she had not died but had been in hiding the whole time, leaving her ex-wife Lisa and daughter Betsy completely shocked.

It didn’t take long for Becky to cause chaos in Lisa and Carla’s relationship, secretly determined to reclaim her family. After moving in and playing manipulative games, Becky drove a wedge between the couple, prompting Carla to end her relationship with Lisa and leaving both women heartbroken.

Amid her emotional turmoil, Carla decided to leave Weatherfield for the holidays, taking a spontaneous solo trip to Lanzarote.

However, it soon emerged that Becky had kidnapped Carla, holding her hostage and using her phone to send curt messages to Lisa.

In last week’s Corriedale, Kit Green, who had grown suspicious of Becky and feared for Carla’s safety, managed to track her down as he and others pursued Becky.

.Becky was on her way to Spain for a fresh start with Lisa and Betsy in the car. However, during the Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover, Corriedale, Emmerdale’s John Sugden crashed into Becky’s car, causing a deadly pile-up.

After the collision, Becky was arrested, and on Monday’s episode, the ITV soap provided an update on her future.

Lisa visited her superior at the police station, DI Thompson, saying: “The thing is, I’m worried Becky’s going to lie at the hearing and try to frame me. But I swear, everything in my statement is the truth. I love my job and I can’t afford to lose it.”

DI Thompson interrupted: “Let me stop you there. I thought you might have heard—the hearing’s over. She got 12 years, and as far as I know, your name wasn’t mentioned, which I guess is the good news.

“And the not-so-good news… you’re being placed on restricted duties while there’s an internal investigation.”

DI Thompson added: “Listen, from what I hear, you’re a good cop. Keep your head down, and soon you’ll be able to put this whole chapter behind you. In the meantime, at least you know Becky’s out of your life.”

The episode then showed Becky struggling in prison, as other inmates taunted her over her former career in the police.

It ended with Lisa sharing the news with Betsy, who had previously confronted Becky in prison, wishing her were dead. Lisa reassured her daughter: “We don’t ever have to see her again. We’re gonna be okay, kiddo. We’re gonna be okay.”
