Coronation Street fans have only just worked out who Tracy Barlow’s real father is

Posted on January 20, 2026

A shocking Coronation Street twist revealing Ken Barlow is not Tracy’s real dad has stunned viewers.

Coronation Street fans have been left stunned after discovering that Ken Barlow is not Tracy’s biological father.

Tracy Barlow, played by Kate Ford, has been a familiar face on the cobbles since 1977 and has gone on to become one of the show’s most iconic characters.

The murderer-turned-florist has been at the centre of countless major storylines over the years. From explosive affairs and bitter feuds to the killing of her partner Charlie Stubbs (Bill Ward), Tracy’s life in Weatherfield has rarely been short on drama.

Most recently, she found herself caught up in the devastating Corriedale vehicle pile-up earlier this month — a tragic incident that led to the death of Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank).

However, some viewers are only now realising that Ken Barlow, played by William Roache, is not actually Tracy’s biological father. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one fan confessed: “Controversial, but I was today years old when I found out Ken isn’t Tracy’s biological father.”

Another quickly responded: “Nope, it’s Ray Langton.” A third fan also shared their surprise, writing: “You’re not alone — I didn’t know this either!”

Tracy was born on 24th January 1977 to Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) and Ray Langton (Neville Buswell). Ray, who first appeared on the soap in 1966, married Deirdre in 1975 and became Tracy’s father 18 months later.

However, Ray later abandoned his family after it emerged he had an affair with a waitress and left for a building job in Holland. His character was last seen in the 1997 Coronation Street spin-off video, Viva Las Vegas.

Ray returned briefly to the cobbles in 2005 for a six-week storyline, dying from cancer at Ken and Deirdre’s wedding reception.

In real life, Neville Buswell, the actor who played Ray, passed away on Christmas Day 2019 at the age of 77. At the time, a Coronation Street spokesperson commented: “We are saddened to hear of the passing of Neville Buswell. His portrayal of Deirdre’s first husband, Ray Langton, in the 1970s secured him a place in Coronation Street history.

“We were thrilled when he returned to the role in 1997 for a special DVD set in Las Vegas, and again in 2005 when Ray appeared on the cobbles to visit Deirdre and his daughter Tracy. We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this sad time.”
