Coronation Street icon issues emotional farewell in touching announcement.

Posted on January 28, 2026

Fans have rallied around a Coronation Street actor following their emotional announcement on social media.

A Coronation Street actor has been flooded with messages of support after sharing heartbreaking personal news. Adam Rickitt, who portrayed Nick Tilsley on the long-running ITV soap, first appeared on the show in 1997 and quickly became a fan favourite.

Adam left the series in 1999 to focus on a pop music career but later returned to the cobbles for a two-year run between 2002 and 2004. Since departing the show, he has remained busy with roles in programmes such as Hollyoaks and the BBC’s Doctors.

Away from acting, Adam is married to Good Morning Britain star Katy Rickitt. Katy joined the popular ITV show in 2012 as a news correspondent and has gone on to report on a wide range of stories over the years.

The couple first crossed paths in 2011 when Katy interviewed Adam on Good Morning Britain. Three years later, they tied the knot in a fairytale winter wedding in December 2014.

Alongside their successful careers, Katy and Adam also co-own a specialist bottle shop called Dexter and Jones in Knutsford, Cheshire. However, the pair were left devastated last month when their beloved dog Daphne sadly passed away, reports the Mirror.

Now, just four weeks later, the couple have revealed further heartbreak, sharing that their other dog, Tallulah, has also died. Katy announced the news on Instagram, posting a series of photos of herself with Tallulah over the years.

In her heartfelt message, she wrote: “The day we’ve been dreading has arrived. Today we had to say goodbye to our beautiful baby Tallulah, making the devastating decision to let her cross the rainbow bridge.

“I thought losing Daphne so suddenly was unbearable, but having to make this choice has been a strange mix of emotions — a kindness in the long run, but incredibly painful right now. Tallulah had a brain tumour, and over time both the illness and the medication were taking their toll. As much as I would have kept her with me forever, she was clearly uncomfortable and heading towards real suffering.”

She went on to say: “I’ve been talking to many of you lately about soul animals — and she was mine. That doesn’t mean I loved her more than the others; they’re all our babies. But somehow she crossed a line, as if we imprinted on each other. Over time, we shared the same emotions, almost anticipating each other, knowing one another completely.

“Every morning, T would bring me her duck or pheasant toy. She’d gaze at me like I was God’s gift while I did my makeup, and we used to joke that her kisses were ‘kisses of doom’ — delivered with such enthusiasm you had to guard your teeth!”

Katy also shared: “If I packed a suitcase, she’d lie behind my car tyres to stop me from leaving. If I went to bed early and sat on Adam’s lap for a kiss, she’d get so jealous she’d dramatically stare at the wall, pretending she didn’t care. If it were possible, we would have completely lived in each other’s pockets — I’d have taken her everywhere with me, if only she didn’t excitement-pee so much!”

She continued: “One of my most painful memories that later became one of the happiest… three years ago we almost lost her to pneumonia. After a full moon and so much love from all of you, she suddenly began to recover — though we were told it would still be days before she could come home.

“I was away in Edinburgh for work when Adam rang to say she was being discharged. I practically injured myself sprinting to the train station with all my bags. Adam warned me not to expect too much, saying she was still very weak.

“We arrived back at the same time, and T burst out of the car and leapt straight into my arms like a lightning bolt. That’s the video I shared of her lying on her back. From that day on, I lived as though every moment might be her last — always wishing that thought wasn’t true. Goodnight, my beautiful baby. Fly high, rest peacefully, and love fiercely until we meet again.”

Katy’s devoted followers quickly filled the comments with messages of love and support for her and Adam. One wrote: “So sorry, Katy. Sending so much love to you, Adam, and Dexter.”

Another shared words of comfort: “Thinking of you at such a hard time. T had the most wonderful life with you. As painful as this is, hold onto all the beautiful memories. Fly high, Tallulah — you’ll live forever in your mum and dad’s hearts.”

A third added their condolences: “Katy and Adam, I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. Sleep peacefully, beautiful girl.”
