ITV soap specialist Sharon Marshall has revealed whether Doctor Vincent Harper is set to return to the Weatherfield cast in a recent update.
Coronation Street fans were issued an apology by a show insider after receiving an update on the intriguing new character, Doctor Vincent Harper, portrayed by John Hollingworth.
In the episode aired Wednesday (January 7), viewers saw David (Jack P. Shepherd) and Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) anxiously preparing for her complex surgery. This followed the discovery of a mass on their unborn daughter’s neck during a recent scan.
Although plans had been made for the operation to coincide with the baby’s birth, the couple became caught up in the chaos of the special Corrie and Emmerdale crossover, Corriedale.
The multi-vehicle accident put residents from both Weatherfield and the Dales at risk, forcing Shona to deliver her baby earlier than expected.
So, in last week’s special episode, Coronation Street focused on David and Shona as they prepared for the high-risk surgery that could save their newborn daughter’s life.
They were dismayed to discover that the consultant surgeon originally assigned to perform the operation was stuck overseas, reports the Manchester Evening News.
In his place, a replacement, Vincent Harper, was quickly brought in, leaving David and Shona uncertain about his competence.
Before arriving at the hospital, Vincent was seen at Roy’s Rolls, where he appeared to unsettle Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) by bringing up Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), whose recent death in the tragic crash had dominated the headlines.
He also got under David’s skin when they argued over a parking space in the hospital lot. The hairdresser later apologised after the surgeon successfully carried out the operation and delivered the baby safely, with the couple naming their daughter Harper in his honour.
Vincent, who had travelled from Bristol on his birthday to perform the surgery, later visited the café, only to find Bernie had closed up early. When he asked why, she revealed that Billy was her son-in-law and kindly offered him a pie and a cup of tea on the house.
On Wednesday’s (January 14) episode of ITV’s This Morning, soap expert Sharon Marshall confirmed that he won’t be returning.
She later shared on X (formerly Twitter): “As we just mentioned on air, sorry to disappoint, but Dr Harper isn’t coming back to Corrie. Lost track of how many hopeful messages I’ve had… he certainly made an impression!”
When a fan commented: “I’m so confused, why did we learn so much about him and his kids’ birthday cake? It really stood out as odd,” Sharon responded: “Exactly, he had a lot of screen time for a small role, right? But it was just a charming guest appearance.”
