Coronation Street’s Carl Webster made his debut on the ITV soap last year

Coronation Street’s Carl Webster has recently been at the heart of major storylines on the ITV soap. The character, portrayed by Jonathan Howard, first arrived on the cobbles last year as the long-estranged brother of Kevin and Debbie Webster.
In just a short time, Carl became embroiled in controversy after embarking on an affair with his sister-in-law Abi Webster, almost killing Tyrone Dobbs in a hit-and-run incident, and conning his sister Debbie out of money following her dementia diagnosis.
Earlier this month, Carl attempted to flee to Germany during Debbie’s wedding to Ronnie Bailey as his web of deceit began to collapse. After drinking heavily, Debbie tried to stop him from getting behind the wheel, but ended up in the car when Carl drove off at speed.

The pair were later caught up in a serious crash, ploughing into the pile-up caused when Emmerdale’s John Sugden struck Becky Swain during the special Corriedale crossover episode.
In the aftermath of the collision, Carl tried to make his escape by placing an unconscious Debbie in the driver’s seat, but he collapsed before he could flee the scene.
Carl was then taken to hospital, where Kevin confronted him over his web of lies, including the revelation that he had moved Debbie into the driver’s position.
Even so, Debbie continued to stand by her younger brother, who arrogantly denied any wrongdoing. However, earlier this week viewers learned a major twist: Debbie, who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving to protect Carl, is actually his biological mother—a secret she had kept hidden.

With Carl now firmly in the spotlight, viewers are eager to find out more about actor Jonathan Howard’s life away from Coronation Street.
Off screen, Jonathan is married to actress Élodie Yung, who is known for roles in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Marvel’s Daredevil, and more recently for starring as Thony De La Rosa in The Cleaning Lady.
The couple live in the United States and share a daughter, who was born in 2018. Over the summer, Élodie also revealed that she surprised Jonathan with a visit to the Coronation Street set.

Élodie previously expressed her affection for Jonathan in a heartfelt birthday post on Instagram, writing:
“Happy birthday @mrjonathanhoward!! You are such a wonderful person with a huge heart, the best husband and an amazing dad! I love you. Here’s to many more adventures together” ❤️❤️
