Coronation Street actress Debbie Rush has revealed that her son, William, has died just days before Christmas.
She shared the heartbreaking news in an emotional Instagram statement, confirming that her “beautiful baby boy” passed away on December 17.
In her message, Rush said her family was “completely broken” by the loss, adding that the pain was beyond words. She explained that there were “no words that can truly capture the depth of our loss” following William’s death.
Rush also shared that her son became an organ donor, describing the decision as a final act of kindness that has brought hope and saved lives for other families. She said that even during the family’s darkest hours, William was “thinking of others right to the very end.”
“By becoming an organ donor, he has given hope and life to other families,” she wrote. “His kindness and love will always be part of his legacy.”
The actress asked for privacy for herself and her loved ones as they try to cope with what she called “unimaginable grief,” adding that William would be “always loved, always missed and forever in our hearts.”
William was an actor in his own right and appeared in the BBC drama Waterloo Road, where viewers recognised him for his role on the show. Since the announcement, tributes have poured in from fans, as well as friends and colleagues across the television industry, offering their support to Rush and her family.
Rush is best known for playing Anna Windass on ITV’s Coronation Street, a role she held for more than a decade. News of her son’s death sparked an outpouring of condolences and messages of support from fans and fellow actors on social media.
The actress has not shared further details about William’s death, choosing instead to focus on celebrating his life and finding comfort in his decision to become an organ donor.
