Corrie’s Sally Metcalfe has long been known as one of Weatherfield’s biggest gossips. Now, Coronation Street actress Sally Dynevor has shared a major career milestone, with her co-stars rallying around her in support.
The 62-year-old first arrived on the cobbles as Sally Seddon at just 22 and has remained a firm fan favourite on the long-running ITV soap ever since.
Over the years, the much-loved character has been involved in a number of high-profile storylines, including her rocky marriage to Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) and a harrowing domestic abuse plot involving partner Greg Kelly (Stephen Billington).
In 2009, Sally captivated viewers as her character faced a breast cancer battle — a storyline that mirrored real life and is something the actress has since said may have ultimately saved her life.

Taking to Instagram on Monday (January 12), Sally revealed that she is set to celebrate 40 years since her debut on Coronation Street, leaving her co-stars amazed by the milestone.
To mark the special occasion, Sally shared a photo of a 40th anniversary card she received from fellow cast member Tony Maudsley, who plays George Shuttleworth on the show.
The card’s front features an image from Sally’s very first scene, which saw her character splashed by Kevin’s car as it drove through a puddle — a moment that originally aired on January 27, 1986.
Sally proudly captioned the post: “I can’t believe it’s 40 years in Corrie this month. What a ride it has been. I love what I do so much. Thank you @tonymaudsley1 for this — it’s wonderful.”
The post quickly drew an outpouring of congratulatory messages from Sally’s co-stars. Her on-screen husband, Joe Duttine, who plays Tim Metcalfe, commented: “Oh wow, that’s amazing… love you, Sal xx.”
Tony Maudsley responded with: “You are very welcome, Sal. Happy Corriversary, you massive legend.” Meanwhile, Lauren Bolton actress Cait Fitton added: “You’re absolutely amazing! Congratulations, you iconic queen.”
Steve McDonald star Simon Gregson also shared his praise, writing: “Happy anniversary, lovely Sally,” while Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick reminisced: “Remember that scene! Amazing, Sally.”
Abi Webster actress Sally Carman joked: “How is this possible? You’re only 36!” and former Corrie star Brooke Vincent, who played Sophie Webster, simply added: “Congratulations, Sal.”

Speaking previously to Woman’s Weekly magazine, the soap star reassured fans that she has no plans to leave Coronation Street and hopes to continue on the show well into her 80s.
“I want to keep working; it’s great for my brain,” she said. “So, if they still want me, maybe I’ll be on the show in my 70s and 80s. I’ll just keep going.”
Sally added: “It’s such a wonderful job, and I feel incredibly grateful to still have it after 40 years.”
