Coronation Street and Emmerdale viewers have waited months for Corriedale, and the special ITV soap crossover delivered plenty of drama, heartbreak and devastation.
The first-ever crossover episode between Coronation Street and Emmerdale had ITV viewers glued to their screens. Soap fans had been eagerly anticipating the long-awaited collision of television’s two biggest soaps, and the moment finally arrived.
ITV bosses brought the worlds of Corrie and Emmerdale together to celebrate the channel’s new “soap power hour,” which features both shows airing every weeknight. The one-off, hour-long special wasted no time diving into chaos.
The episode opened with Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) desperately urging John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) to slow down as he drove at dangerous speed. At the same time, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) begged Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Boyd) to stop as he pursued Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), who were racing to the airport so they could be told the truth about Charity’s pregnancy.

As Coronation Street’s Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) drove a minibus full of wedding guests away from Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) and Ronnie Bailey’s (Vinta Morgan) big day, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) was left in a state of terror when his abusive partner Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) blocked his attempt to escape.
Meanwhile, Debbie, who is living with dementia, ended up in Carl Webster’s (Jonathan Howard) car as he fled the wedding venue. Carl drove off while intoxicated after the shocking truth emerged about him running over Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) and stealing from Debbie—revelations that rocked the wedding celebrations.
Elsewhere, Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) appeared to be on the brink of reuniting her family as Betsy (Sydney Martin) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) travelled with her to catch a ferry from Hull, heading off on a trip to Spain.
However, that hopeful moment took a devastating turn when Lisa received a call from Carla Connor (Alison King), who had been held hostage by Becky over the festive period. Distracted by the call, their vehicle crashed head-on into the car carrying John and Aaron, bringing the night to a shocking and dramatic halt.

Multiple vehicles were involved in the devastating pile-up, including Charity and Mack’s car, as well as the vehicle carrying Sarah and Jacob, which was being driven by Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) with Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) also inside.
The minibus driven by Billy skidded out of control as Carla desperately tried to prevent it from ploughing into the wreckage ahead. Despite her efforts, the vehicle tipped onto its side in horrifying scenes, leaving several passengers trapped inside.
Tragically, Billy lost his life after becoming pinned inside the minibus. While everyone else managed to escape, the ruthless Theo chose not to help him, instead crawling out of the wreckage himself. Moments later, the vehicle exploded, sending shockwaves through the scene and leaving those present devastated and in mourning.

Lisa later arrested Becky, while Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), and Cain pursued John. Meanwhile, a hooded figure was seen stalking the scene, and an unidentified woman was discovered tied up in the back of a van.
At the hospital, pregnant Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) was distraught as she went into labor, while David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) suffered an epileptic seizure. Charity, who is also expecting, tried to comfort Shona during the chaotic moment.
Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was left injured, and the mysterious hooded figure was finally revealed to be Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough)—a fan-favourite who fans believed had been killed off back in 2020.

Cain received devastating news from doctors that a mass had been discovered on his brain following his gunshot injury, as Moira remained by his side in the hospital.
Meanwhile, Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) looked on in horror as his brother Carl fought for his life, after trying to shift the blame for the crash onto their sister Debbie by putting her in the driver’s seat.
The episode ended on a shocking cliffhanger: a gunshot rang out during the hunt for John, leaving viewers stunned as Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) was revealed holding the weapon—having tragically shot her own brother.
Fans won’t have to wait long for the next installment, as Emmerdale returns to ITV1 at 7 pm on Tuesday, January 6, followed by Coronation Street at 7.30 pm. Both episodes will also be available to stream from 7 am on ITVX.
