A surprise wedding happened in the Dales on Christmas Eve
An Emmerdale icon has secretly tied the knot for the sixth time, a move that has left his grandson heartbroken.
The festive season has been far from peaceful in the Dales, with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) recently fearing for their lives after the terrifying return of Robert’s unhinged husband, Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill).
Elsewhere, Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) have been busy planning a secret wedding, cleverly disguising the celebration as a gender reveal party.
On Christmas Eve (December 24), Jacob was left speechless when he saw his bride-to-be in her wedding dress. However, the couple were forced to contain their excitement when an unsuspecting Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) and Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) arrived at the gathering.

Later, when Sarah and Jacob arrived at the registry office, they were stunned to discover Kerry and Eric Pollard, who had just exchanged vows themselves.
“This is strictly a financial arrangement,” Pollard insisted. Viewers will be aware that his real motive for marrying Kerry is to transfer money to her for Jacob’s future, a secret the rest of the village knows nothing about.
An angry Jacob confronted his grandfather, saying: “You lied to me. You told me you had an important meeting and made out like you weren’t even free.”
Pollard, meanwhile, was equally furious that Jacob had married Sarah behind his back, and he stormed off in frustration.

Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) brought several villagers together at the Woolpack for a special celebration for the younger residents, but Jacob and Sarah ultimately didn’t go through with their wedding after discovering the truth behind Pollard and Kerry’s arrangement.
Trying to dismiss Sarah’s suggestion that it was a “sham wedding,” Kerry reassured everyone, saying: “This is completely genuine. I love Eric dearly – he’s like a father figure to us.”
Pollard echoed her words, adding: “Kerry and I have grown close since she started caring for me. There’s nothing wrong with that, is there?”
From across the pub, a furious Jacob watched on, muttering: “We should tell everyone the truth. He’s destroyed our big day.”
Later, in an attempt to lift their spirits, Jacob and Sarah learned they were expecting a baby girl. However, viewers know the truth – the baby actually belongs to Charity (Emma Atkins) and Ross Barton (Michael Parr), not the young couple.

Emmerdale viewers were left stunned by the surprise wedding scenes, with many rushing to X (formerly Twitter) to share their disbelief.
“Soaps are completely unhinged,” one fan posted. “Kerry marrying Eric Pollard on Christmas Eve and becoming his sixth wife was not on my radar at all. I’m absolutely howling at this twist.”
Another viewer commented: “This was definitely not on my Christmas Eve bingo card – an Eric and Kerry wedding!”
A third joked: “Eric better not die in Corrie-dale now that Kerry’s become wife number six. Henry VIII had six wives and we all know how that story goes.”
A fourth fan agreed, writing: “What a brilliant episode – packed with twists, turns and surprises!”
Meanwhile, another viewer summed it up by saying: “Tonight’s #Emmerdale was the funniest thing I’ve ever watched. I was in tears laughing. Whoever came up with Eric and Kerry deserves a massive raise.”
