Emmerdale star Zoe Henry reveals why she has no desire to work alongside Cain Dingle actor

Posted on January 13, 2026

Rhona Goskirk, portrayed by Zoe Henry, has been part of Emmerdale for more than 20 years, and the actress has addressed a fan theory involving her real-life husband.

Zoe Henry has addressed calls for Cain Dingle to step in and bring down Ray Walters and Celia Daniels’ criminal operation in Emmerdale. After a brief break from the soap in 2002, she appeared in rival dramas Coronation Street and EastEnders. Since 2021, Rhona has been in a relationship with Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock), with the pair navigating life as a blended family. More recently, they have been struggling to find the best way to support April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) following a disturbing ordeal. April was manipulated by Ray (Joe Absolom) and Celia (Jaye Griffiths), who forced her into dealing drugs and sleeping with older men to pay off a debt.

The pair’s involvement in modern slavery was eventually uncovered, but justice has remained out of reach as both Celia and Ray are now dead, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Ray fatally stabbed his mother, Celia, after she tried to stop him from starting a new life with Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy), with whom he had begun a relationship.

Ray was later found dead as well, though the identity of his killer has yet to be revealed. This mystery is set to be solved as Emmerdale gears up for a week of “whodunit” episodes. Each thrilling instalment will feature flashbacks from different suspects — Laurel, Rhona, and Marlon — before viewers finally learn who murdered Ray and left his body in the back of Jai Sharma’s (Chris Bisson) van.

When asked about Rhona’s interactions with Ray, Zoe Henry commented: “It was particularly dark when he brought up Pierce [Harris].”

“Yeah, that’s always been her Achilles’ heel. Ray knew exactly what he was doing by bringing that up. The moment his name is mentioned, it completely throws her. This stage of her life is dominated by constant, overwhelming fear and panic.

After witnessing what Ray did to Dylan [Penders] over the phone while they were in the room with Celia, it left them traumatised.

They’re like rabbits caught in headlights. Any noise in the night, a door opening — it instantly takes them back there. They believe they’re under constant threat, so they’re living in a continual state of fear and panic.”

Speaking about whether Rhona could be driven to kill Ray, Zoe admitted:
“I think she could be pushed to that point because how long can they be expected to live like this? It reaches a moment of total desperation, where it feels like there’s no way out.

And if that means dying or sacrificing myself to free my family — especially my children — then maybe that’s what I’d do.”.

“And I think that’s exactly what’s on Rhona’s mind. Ray is ruthless and relentless — he’ll stop at nothing. Rhona knows that, so she’s fully committed. She has to be, or else where would they be?”

Zoe married her Emmerdale co-star Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain, in 2003. During this storyline, fans had been hoping that Cain would step in to help Marlon and Rhona.

Responding to the fact that this theory didn’t come true, Zoe said: “Professionally, I’m a bit disappointed, but personally, I’m thrilled. I don’t want to work with Jeff, and he doesn’t want to work with me — but I also think he’s a fantastic actor. I always want to work with people who are brilliant, and he is, so it’s a double-edged sword, I suppose.”
