Emmerdale stars take jab at Coronation Street ahead of Corriedale crossover

Posted on December 25, 2025

Emmerdale’s Chas Dingle shared that she received a murder mystery trip in Weatherfield as a Christmas gift, while Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden joked that they’d “never heard of it.”

Emmerdale took a playful dig at Coronation Street just minutes into its Christmas Day episode.

During Thursday’s (December 25) hour-long festive special, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) revealed that her partner Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) had gifted her a murder mystery experience for Christmas.

She told Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley): “He got me a cardi and a murder mystery thing.”

Aaron asked: “Where do you have to go for that?” Chas replied: “I dunno, some hotel in Weatherfield.” When her son pressed: “Where?” she said: “God knows.”

Later, Aaron turned to Robert, asking: “Weatherfield?” to which Robert quipped: “Never heard of it.”

Fans will be aware that Weatherfield is the fictional working-class town in Greater Manchester where Coronation Street is set, and the humorous moment in Emmerdale serves as a lead-up to the highly anticipated Corriedale crossover.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the two ITV soaps would film a crossover for the first time ever.

Although plot details have largely been kept secret since the announcement, ITV has released a trailer showing a multi-vehicle car crash.

In the 30-second preview, several characters are seen dealing with the aftermath. Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) takes charge of the scene, while a frantic Carla Connor (Alison King) attempts to calm someone down.

Meanwhile, an injured Shona and David Platt (Julia Goulding and Jack P Shepherd) receive treatment at the roadside from Emmerdale paramedic Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).

Other characters appearing in the episode include Coronation Street’s trainee paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey), who teams up with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) to help additional casualties.

Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) is seen assisting a pregnant Shona in a scene set at Hotton General Hospital. Meanwhile, Kevin and Abi Webster (Michael Le Vell and Sally Carman-Duttine) search for Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) at the crash site, while a distraught Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) calls out for Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) in the dark alongside Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).

The episode ushers in a new way to watch soaps in 2026. Corriedale is a celebration of the soap genre and will kick off ITV’s new “soap power hour”, pairing Coronation Street and Emmerdale back-to-back.

From 2026, half-hour episodes of each show will air, with Emmerdale at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8:30pm.
