Emmerdale twist as Ray and Celia’s hidden accomplice is exposed, leaving fans shocked

Posted on January 15, 2026

Ray Walters and Celia Daniels’ criminal activities have been uncovered in Emmerdale, but some fans think the story isn’t over yet.

Emmerdale viewers are convinced they’ve uncovered the identity of Ray Walters and Celia Daniels’ secret accomplice — a twist that could leave many fans stunned. ITV soap followers will remember that drug dealer Ray (played by Joe Absolom) first appeared in the Dales last year.

It later emerged that Ray had been exploiting teenager Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle). Dylan’s girlfriend, April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan), was then drawn into Ray and his sinister mother Celia’s (Jaye Griffiths) web as she desperately tried to clear Dylan’s mounting debts.

But the revelations didn’t stop there. It was also confirmed that Ray and Celia had been holding Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) prisoner on their farm, along with several other captives. Celia’s grip on control began to unravel when her son announced he planned to continue his relationship with Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy).

The storyline reached a shocking climax when he stabbed his mother to death in their kitchen, before meeting a similar end himself. His body was later seen being dragged through the village shortly before the Corrie crossover.

Ray’s killer has yet to be identified, but police have now discovered his body hidden in the back of a depot van. The grim find comes shortly after the village learned the truth about Ray and Celia’s crimes, with suspicion immediately falling on Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb).

Things worsened when Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) blackmailed Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) into planting incriminating documents at Butlers Farm in an attempt to frame Moira. As a result, the long-standing villager was arrested in Wednesday’s episode (January 14).

In Thursday’s instalment (January 15), now available to stream on ITVX, Moira returned home after spending the night being questioned by police. Meanwhile, investigating officer DS Walsh (Amanda Ryan) turned her attention to Laurel, quizzing her about her connection to Ray.

During the discussion, Laurel suggested that her ex-husband Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) may not have been pleased about her new relationship, but she was adamant that he was not responsible for Ray’s death. Later, DS Walsh brought Jai in for questioning to establish why Ray’s body had been discovered in the van Jai had been driving.

“We believe Laurel Thomas could be linked to the murder of Ray Walters, and we’re also considering whether you may have been involved,” the officer warned. “If either of you had a hand in it, rest assured we will uncover the truth.”

Despite this, some Emmerdale viewers are convinced that DS Walsh may be concealing secrets of her own and could be connected to Ray and Celia’s crimes.

“I might be wrong, but I don’t think the police officer is genuine,” one viewer commented on a Facebook fan page. Another added: “DS Walsh has handled plenty of cases, but there’s something about her that just doesn’t sit right with me.”

A third fan speculated: “There’s definitely something strange going on. What if she’s connected to Ray and Celia and is trying to shift the blame onto someone else?” A fourth echoed the view, writing: “Yes, I completely agree!”

Meanwhile, a fifth viewer shared similar suspicions, saying: “I think she was on Celia’s payroll. She kept making excuses about why nothing could be done when Marlon went to the police. There’s definitely something dodgy happening.”
