Emmerdale viewers felt deeply moved as the village celebrated a significant anniversary on Monday.

Emmerdale fans have been left “in tears” after the ITV soap aired a heartfelt tribute following a series of tragic deaths.
In February 2025, the lives of 17 characters were thrown into jeopardy when two limousines — driven by Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Caleb Miligan (William Ash) — were involved in separate crashes.
Caleb’s car was caught up in a minor accident, but Charity’s limo careered into a frozen lake, where passenger Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) died instantly on impact.
Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) later became the second resident to lose her life after suffering severe blood loss in the ambulance, while Amy Barton (Natalie Ann Jamieson) tragically died in hospital after developing hypothermia.

It was later revealed that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) had unintentionally triggered the crash after drugging his brother, Noah (Jack Downham), who had been wandering through the woods that evening. Months later, the inquest concluded that the deaths of Amy, Leyla and Suzy were officially ruled as “accidental.”
The first episode marking the anniversary of the tragedy aired on Monday (February 16) and is now available to stream on ITVX. At the beginning of the episode, Amy’s grieving husband, Matty (Ash Palmisciano), was shown looking through old photographs of the pair together.
Matty’s stepfather, Cain (Jeff Hordley) — who is still keeping his cancer diagnosis a secret from his family — then entered Butler’s Farm and asked whether Matty had taken the children to Sam’s (James Hooton) house.
“After being up at five, yeah — clearing out the barns on my own again,” Matty responded irritably, prompting Cain to reply sarcastically: “What? Do you want a Pride of Britain award? I could do without your mood, do you know what I mean?”

Matty then opened up about why he was finding things so difficult, explaining: “Yeah, I might not be my usual cheeky self at the moment. My mum’s in prison, and it was a year ago this week that I lost Amy. Just cut me some slack, yeah?”
Later, while visiting his wife Moira (Natalie J Robb) in prison, Cain reflected on the crash and the impact it continues to have on his son, Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn), following Amy’s death.
“Kyle’s been very quiet. It’s the first anniversary of Amy’s death this week,” Cain said.
Viewers of Emmerdale were left emotional after the limo crash was mentioned in the episode, with many also expressing disbelief that a year had already passed since the tragic event.

“I’ve just realised it’s been a year since Suzy, Leyla and Amy died on #Emmerdale. The limo crash is still one of my favourite Emmerdale stunts,” one viewer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. Another added: “Happy first anniversary to Emmerdale’s limo crash. I still haven’t recovered from it,” alongside crying emojis.
On a Facebook fan page, one person commented: “I can’t believe it’s already been a year since the limo crash. It was heartbreaking seeing Matty in today’s episode. Grief is no joke.” Another fan echoed the sentiment, writing: “I’m actually in tears after today’s episode remembering the limo crash. It was absolutely devastating.”
Elsewhere in the episode of Emmerdale, Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) was questioned by police after admitting to the murder of Ray Walters (Joe Absolom), while Arthur Thomas (Alfie Clarke) announced plans to relocate to Australia.
