Fans in Tears as Coronation Street Shares Emotional Tribute After Devastating Death

Posted on January 14, 2026

Coronation Street Commemorates a Touching Milestone on Instagram

Coronation Street fans have been left in tears after the ITV soap shared a heartfelt tribute following a tragic death. The show’s official Instagram account posted several throwback images from 2016, commemorating ten years since some of its most memorable storylines.

These included Carla Connor’s (Alison King) ill-fated wedding to Nick Tilsley (Ben Price). The ceremony ended in chaos when Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) exposed Carla’s one-night stand with Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill), prompting Nick to jilt her at the altar and seek an annulment.

2016 also marked the return of notorious villain Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre), who carried out a fraudulent buy-to-let scam, manipulated Michael Rodwell (Les Dennis), framed Anna Windass (Debbie Rush) for pushing Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni), and even kidnapped Andy Carver (Oliver Farnworth).

Tragically, it was also the year that Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) was fatally stabbed by Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison) while trying to save her friend Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) outside the Prima Doner. Kylie died in the arms of her devastated husband, David (Jack P. Shepherd), in a brutal attack that left fans heartbroken.

The soap posted photos of the unforgettable 2016 storylines on Instagram on Tuesday (January 13), alongside the caption: “10 years on, and 2016 still lives rent free.”

Fans were quickly left heartbroken after seeing an image of David cradling a dying Kylie. One viewer commented: “Kylie’s death was heartbreaking” with a broken heart emoji.

Another added: “Kylie’s death still haunts me,” while a third wrote: “God, I’ll never get over Kylie dying,” accompanied by several crying emojis.

A fourth fan echoed the sentiment, writing: “How can this be 10 years ago! Kylie’s death still traumatises me, and I completely forgot about Pat Phelan.” Another added: “Wow, how has it been 10 years since Kylie died??? That’s gone by so fast!”

Meanwhile, Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah Platt, commented: “This was not 10 years ago?” The 42-year-old actress, who has portrayed Sarah since 1999, also shared throwback photos from 2016 on her own Instagram page.

Tina posted behind-the-scenes images from her on-screen brother David’s dramatic car crash that year, an incident that ended with his vehicle exploding in a high-stakes storyline.

The photos included several of Tina’s co-stars, including Mikey North, Lucy Fallon, Michael Le Vell, Jane Danson, Bhavna Limbachia, and Coronation Street icon Helen Worth.

Fans flocked to the comments to show their support. One wrote: “10 years ago is crazy! Love the photos.” Another added: “Stunning as always @tinaob83 — you never age.”

A third said simply: “Love it!” while another fan joked: “Does anyone else still think Bethany is 18? Wild.”
