Fans stunned as Emmerdale uncovers the identity of Ray’s murderer

Posted on January 22, 2026

Evil Ray Walter met his end weeks ago, and Emmerdale fans now know exactly what happened to him on his final day.

Emmerdale has finally revealed who killed Ray Walters.

A special week of episodes on the ITV soap has unfolded following Ray’s exposure as a drug-dealing people trafficker running a slavery ring from Butler’s Farm.

Monday (January 19), Tuesday (January 20), and Wednesday’s (January 21) episodes centred on the main suspects: Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy), Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock).

In Thursday’s episode (January 22), Ray remained determined to escape the village and start a new life elsewhere.

With Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) preparing to call the police, Ray threatened young Eve, leaving Paddy and Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) in anguish as they struggled to decide what to do.

Arthur Thomas (Alfie Clarke) wasn’t willing to let Ray get away without a fight. He knocked him down and grabbed his bag, hoping it would stop him from fleeing.

The violence continued when Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), having been informed of Ray’s crimes by Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), confronted him.

Graham came close to killing Ray, but he was interrupted by Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), forcing him to flee the scene.

By the end of the episode, Ray was in Paddy’s living room, threatening both him and Dylan.

In a shocking twist, Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) made a surprise return to the village — previously thought to be dead — leaving Dylan, Paddy, and Ray stunned.

Fans will have to tune in to see what happens next, with many already sharing their reactions on social media. On X (formerly Twitter), one viewer wrote: “Impressive episode of Emmerdale tonight. Did not see that ending coming. The cast were amazing, but special mention to the actor playing Dylan — absolutely exceptional. #Emmerdale.”

Another commented: “Well, I did NOT see that coming! #WhoKilledRay #Emmerdale.” A third added: “What a twist in Emmerdale.”

Spoilers for Friday’s episode (January 23) reveal: “In the shocking aftermath of Ray’s death, after bundling his body into the back of Jai Sharma’s (Chris Bisson) depot van, a mistake sees the corpse driven away by an unsuspecting Jai.”
