Heartbreaking: Corrie star’s son passes away at 31, leaving a final gift

Posted on December 19, 2025

This week, Coronation Street star Debbie Rush’s son, William Rush, tragically passed away at just 31, and she has shared his final act of kindness from her “beautiful baby boy.”

Coronation Street legend Debbie Rush has shared her son’s final act of generosity before his tragic passing.

The soap star revealed on Thursday (December 18) that her son William had died the previous day at just 31. In a heartbreaking Instagram post, she paid tribute to her “beautiful baby boy,” telling fans that she and her family are “completely broken.”

Debbie also shared that William had chosen to become an organ donor before his death, calling it “the most precious gift of all.”

She told her followers: “Even in our darkest moment, William gave the most precious gift of all. By becoming an organ donor, he has offered hope and life to other families, thinking of others right to the very end.”

“His kindness and love will remain a lasting part of his legacy.”

Organ donation occurs when someone chooses to give an organ to another person, an act that can save a life. Most organ and tissue donations come from deceased donors.

In her statement, Debbie said: “Our beautiful baby boy, William, passed away on 17th December. As a family, our hearts are completely broken, and no words can truly express the depth of our loss.”

She also asked that “our privacy be respected as we navigate this unimaginable grief.” She added: “William will always be loved, always missed, and forever in our hearts.”

William was an actor in his own right, starring as student Josh Stevenson on Waterloo Road from 2009 to 2012. He also played Ali Duncan on Grange Hill from 2005 to 2007 and appeared in Shameless and Vera.

He even followed in his mother Debbie’s footsteps on the cobbles, appearing on Coronation Street in 2014 as a young man who threatens Maddie Heath at a hostel. Debbie is best known for her role as Anna Windass on the ITV soap.

William retired from acting in 2017. The year before, at 21, he showcased his singing talent when he auditioned for The X Factor. He reached the six-chair challenge, the third of four elimination stages, performing Zara Larsson’s hit “Lush Life” for judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne, and Nicole Scherzinger.
