“ITV’s Coronation Street introduced a new character, Mal, in Thursday’s episode.”

Coronation Street viewers may recognize newcomer Mal from his various acting roles over the years.
Recently, Roy has formed a “strong bond” with a woman named Alice. As part of a pen pal scheme, Roy had been corresponding with prisoners and began writing to Alice, whose son is incarcerated.
In recent scenes, Roy was shocked to notice that one of Alice’s letters carried “distinctly romantic undertones.” But it soon became clear that Alice isn’t quite what she seems.
On Thursday’s episode, a man in his fifties came into the café and introduced himself as Mal. He explained to Roy that he is Alice’s husband, leaving a stunned Roy struggling to respond. Mal, devastated, revealed that he and Alice have been married for 31 years and have three children, before storming out of the café.

After a row with her husband Dev Alahan, following her way of venting her grief on him, Bernie Winter went out for a boozy night with the girls.
She started the evening knocking back several shots and initially announced she was going home. But at the Chariot Square bar, she got distracted and carried on drinking heavily.
It was there that Alice’s husband, Mal, approached her. After introducing himself, he revealed that his wife had been having an affair.
During the conversation, Bernie opened up to Mal about the deaths of her son Paul and her son-in-law Billy, reflecting on the late couple’s deep love for each other. When Ryan Connor told them they’d had enough and asked them to leave, Mal invited Bernie to his room to help empty the mini bar and continue the party.
In Mal’s room, they took drugs and partied. When Mal made a move on her, Bernie rejected him and went to the bathroom. Upon returning, she broke down in tears, talking about her struggles and failures as a mother.

Later, Ryan arrived at their room to make a noise complaint, but Bernie insisted that nothing had happened. The episode ended with Bernie passed out in a club toilet.
Newcomer Mal is played by actor Tim Treloar. Tim is best known for voicing the Third Doctor in the Doctor Who audio series from Big Finish Productions and for his role as Sergeant Major Tysoe in Bombshell.
He has also appeared in films such as Maleficent, 100 Streets, and Dolittle. On television, Tim’s credits include Call the Midwife, Casualty, Grace, Father Brown, The Bill, Silent Witness, and Midsomer Murders.
In 2023, he played The Walking Man in four episodes of the BBC series Wolf.
