“As Coronation Street’s Annie Wild Debuts This Week, Here’s Where You May Recognise the Actress From”

Coronation Street has welcomed a new character named Annie — but viewers may be wondering where they’ve seen the actress before.
Annie King made her first appearance on the ITV soap in Thursday’s episode (February 12), when she arrived at George Shuttleworth’s (Tony Maudsley) funeral parlour — and she certainly wasn’t pleased.
Speaking with George, who recently arranged her mother’s funeral, along with Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) and Chrissie Boyd (Amy Robbins), Annie accused George of manipulating her mum and taking advantage of her in order to secure a place in her will.
Annie claimed that before her death, her mother altered the will to leave George a staggering £10,000. A stunned George strongly denied any involvement, but Annie refused to believe his explanation.

She was so furious that she threatened legal action against George and his cherished business, warning that they would be meeting again in court. The confrontation left George both stunned and understandably concerned.
After Annie’s first appearance, viewers took to social media trying to figure out where they recognised the actress from. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one fan wrote, “The woman suing George — I’m sure I’ve seen her before.” Another replied, “I was thinking the exact same thing.”

It turns out that Annie actress Marie Crutchley is no stranger to the cobbles, having appeared on Coronation Street several times in the past. Back in 2003, she played a nurse during Tracy Barlow’s (Kate Ford) abortion storyline.
She later returned in 2009 as a headteacher, and in 2011 she portrayed a detective who questioned Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly). More recently, between 2017 and 2018, Marie took on the role of DC Gill Leigh.
Away from Coronation Street, Marie has also built an impressive TV résumé. She appeared as Sue Walker in the BAFTA-winning BBC Three supernatural drama In the Flesh and featured in the television adaptation of JK Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy. She also had a role in Waterloo Road as Barbara Rafferty and, in 2023, played Mrs Fielding in Happy Valley.

It looks like Annie is set to feature more prominently in Coronation Street, as George actor Tony Maudsley recently teased what’s ahead for his character.
Speaking to Inside Soap, he revealed: “George is about to find himself in some legal trouble.
“He inherits money from a widow, and her daughter accuses him of embezzlement, even going as far as spreading malicious rumours about him.”
Tony added: “George ends up in court! Chrissie steps in to defend him and truly shows how much she cares.”
With court drama looming and loyalties tested, it sounds like George’s world is about to be turned upside down.
