Which character does Bill Ward from Coronation Street portray in Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?

Posted on January 28, 2026

Bill Ward, known for his role as villain Charlie Stubbs on Coronation Street, has taken on the role of a knight in the new Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

The eagerly awaited Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has officially premiered on Sky and NOW. Serving as a prequel to the original series, it chronicles the adventurous journeys of Dunk (Peter Claffey) and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), as penned by George R. R. Martin.

Since its debut on January 18, 2026, the series has garnered widespread praise, earning an impressive 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a second season already confirmed.

The fantasy drama boasts a stellar cast, including Bertie Carvel and Daniel Ings. Yet, one actor has particularly caught the eye of soap fans.

Bill Ward plays Ser Donnel of Duskendale, a distinguished member of Daeron II’s Kingsguard, though fans of Coronation Street will remember him best as the scheming Charlie Stubbs.

Charlie first graced the cobbles on November 10, 2003, and his infamous storyline concluded on January 15, 2007..

During his tenure on the show, Charlie became Coronation Street’s ultimate villain, displaying a series of manipulative and narcissistic behaviors that shook the residents of Weatherfield.

One of his most disturbing storylines centered on a toxic relationship with Shelley Unwin (Sally Lindsay), the pub’s landlady.

Charlie subjected Shelley to cruel treatment and also clashed fiercely with her mother, Bev Unwin (Susie Blake). In the end, Shelley recognized his true nature and left him humiliated at the altar on their wedding day.

Other memorable storylines included a bitter feud with Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), a high-stakes confrontation with Shelley’s ex-husband Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), and a shocking attempt to drown David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd).

During his exit from Coronation Street, Charlie rekindled his romance with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford), who plotted revenge after discovering his true nature.

Her plan took a violent turn when Tracy attacked Charlie with an ornament, leaving him hospitalized, where he ultimately died from his injuries.

After leaving Coronation Street, Bill Ward appeared in Emmerdale as James Barton and in Netflix’s After Life as Simon.

Ward also broadened his career to include film and theatre, with roles such as Gustav in To a Cinder, Stammas in The Shawshank Redemption, and Gerald in The Full Monty.

In A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, he appeared in the episode titled Hard Salt Beef, leaving fans excited for his upcoming appearances as new episodes continue to air weekly.
