Corriedale boss reveals worries over last-minute soap crossover shake-up

Posted on January 5, 2026

Corriedale crossover episode features public vote closing just 15 minutes before Monday’s 8pm broadcast, with four character pairings including Roy, Kirk, Carla and Ross

Soap supremo Iain MacLeod has admitted to feeling nervous as the huge Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover, Corriedale, approaches. On Monday night (January 5), the two soap worlds will collide in a thrilling hour-long episode.

Stars from both shows will appear in the high-octane instalment, which centres around a devastating crash stunt that leaves several lives hanging in the balance. However, one element of the episode in particular has been keeping Iain awake at night.

As previously revealed, the episode includes a public vote giving viewers the chance to influence a scene in the programme. While the precise moment the chosen scene will air has not been disclosed, voting will close just 15 minutes before the episode begins at 8pm on Monday.

The options have been narrowed down to four pairings, each made up of one character from each soap. At a pivotal point in the episode, viewers will be asked to decide which duo’s storyline they want to see, although Iain told The Mirror and other outlets that, ideally, all of the scenes could eventually be shown.

However, only one pairing will make it into the episode at the last minute, according to The Mirror. It is this rapid turnaround and the limited time available to incorporate the chosen scene that has been causing Iain the most concern.

He explained: “From a long list of viewer suggestions, we selected four pairings that both we and the audience liked the sound of, and we wrote a scene for each of those combinations. From January, there will be an online poll where viewers can vote for which of the four pairings they want to see included in the finished episode.”

“There will be an additional scene included in the episode that will be chosen by the audience. Voting closes 15 minutes before transmission. I’ll be in the transmission suite on the night thinking, ‘play that one. Hopefully that’s the right one,’ and, to be honest, I’m already feeling a little sweaty about it.”

When asked about the timing within the episode and the character pairings, he explained: “We designed it so there’s a natural juncture where it can be featured, and I’m not going to reveal where that is just yet. The pairings are: Roy and Nicola, our Cafe Supremos; Kirk and Sam, which actor James Houghton described as the meeting of two brain cells; Carla and Charity, which will certainly cause a stir if that one is chosen; and Ross and Tracy, a very sparky pair — two appallingly flirtatious people who can’t avoid flirting with each other.

“All of the scenes are brilliant in their own way. They’re fully filmed and ready to go. We’ll find a way for everyone to see all of them eventually, I’m sure. But as for which one goes into the episode, that will be up to the audience.”
