Danny Dyer poised to join Celebrity Traitors following unexpected U-turn

Posted on January 19, 2026

EastEnders actor Danny Dyer is said to be joining The Celebrity Traitors series 2 after turning down the BBC’s offer last year.

Danny Dyer is reportedly set to take part in the second series of The Celebrity Traitors after initially turning down the opportunity last year.
The 48-year-old TV star apparently had a change of heart after seeing the antics of Celia Imrie and eventual winner Alan Carr in the first series.

“Danny was always at the top of The Celebrity Traitors wish list but had no interest until he saw all the fun and games last autumn,” a source told The Sun. “Once he changed his mind, it was full steam ahead.”

The former EastEnders actor previously appeared in a parody sketch of The Traitors for Comic Relief in 2023 and was targeted for last year’s celebrity series, but producers were unable to secure him.

In October, he admitted how much he enjoyed the celebrity episodes, which prompted the BBC to quickly secure his participation, according to OK! magazine.

Producers will be hoping he doesn’t pull out at the last minute like Daisy May Cooper did last year, as she didn’t want to be away from her young son.

A source added: “Danny is a reality TV booker’s dream and will be fantastic value—he’s naturally funny, but in a completely different way to Alan Carr.

“Bosses don’t want to repeat the same formula, and he’ll be absolute gold. As we saw with Daisy May Cooper in series one, plans can change at the last minute, but Danny looks fully committed to filming in the Highlands later this year.”

A BBC spokesperson said: “We’re not commenting on speculation, but details about series two of The Celebrity Traitors will be revealed in due course.”

Danny has already expressed his excitement about joining the show. Speaking on Claudia Winkleman’s programme, he explained: “It’s quite a simple game. I thought it would be complicated, but it’s really just about people manipulating each other and a lot of lying.

“If you’re a Faithful, it’s tough—you’re trying to act like a Faithful and it often backfires.

“So, if the money’s right, I might take part in the next series. I think I’d want to be a Traitor. There’s triple bluffs, double bluffs—it’s more fun being a Traitor because you actually have something to do.”

Speculation is mounting over potential contestants for the new celebrity series, with names like Alison Hammond and Ruth Jones being mentioned—and Daisy May Cooper could even get another shot.
