Emmerdale fans heartbroken over shock death, saying ‘we lost an icon tonight’

Posted on December 16, 2025

Monday’s Emmerdale episode left fans shocked by the death of a beloved character

Emmerdale delivered a shocking death on Monday’s episode, leaving fans stunned by the twist.

Viewers will recall that just last week, Sam Dingle, struggling with financial troubles and embroiled in an ongoing feud with Joe Tate, organised a secret shoot on Home Farm land without Kim Tate’s knowledge. His wife, Lydia Dingle, agreed to distract Kim at the Christmas Fayre, unaware that Kim had planned a surprise visit from Jason Donovan.

At the shoot, Lydia struggled to keep the secret, while Kim insisted on her presence at the Fayre, and Oliver’s shooting party demanded food.

Tensions escalated when Sam became worried that vet Vanessa Woodfield had spotted the shoot — a fear that was confirmed when Vanessa informed Kim about the illegal activity, prompting her to return to Home Farm to investigate.

In a dramatic turn, Kim was discovered gravely injured in the woods after riding her horse to investigate the shoot. She was left unable to move her leg before losing consciousness.

She was later found by her worried family and a guilt-ridden Lydia on Friday’s episode, after they realised she had gone missing.

Following her urgent admission to hospital, Dawn Fletcher updated a remorseful Lydia and concerned Sam, revealing that Kim’s beloved horse, Ice, had a homemade snare embedded in its leg, which caused significant damage. Dawn also confirmed that she planned to involve the police.

By the end of the episode, Dawn gave an update on Kim, admitting that if there was no improvement, “she’s going to lose her leg.”

On Monday’s episode, fans received relief as it was revealed that Kim would not need an amputation and had thankfully woken from her coma in hospital.

Tragically, the same couldn’t be said for Kim’s beloved horse Ice, as it was revealed the animal was badly injured and would likely suffer ongoing pain.

Joe made the difficult decision to have Ice put down and later broke the devastating news to a furious and shocked Kim. He and Dawn explained that vet Vanessa had euthanised Ice that morning, assuring Kim they had both been present as the horse was put to sleep.

Kim immediately confronted Joe, questioning if she was just as replaceable and why he hadn’t explored other options, before sending him away. Meanwhile, Lydia was consumed with guilt and vowed to tell the truth.

On Twitter, now X, viewers expressed heartbreak over Ice’s death, especially given the horse’s involvement in major storylines over the years. One fan shared a picture of Kim on Ice, writing: “Lost an icon tonight on Emmerdale #Emmerdale”, while another said: “Nah, why did Joe have Kim’s horse put down without even telling her? The audacity of this man. #Emmerdale.”

Elsewhere, a viewer wrote: “#Emmerdale RIP Ice, you didn’t deserve to be written out just before Christmas,” another added: “Poor Ice Ice Baby #Emmerdale,” and a third commented: “Poor Ice and Queen Kim. #Emmerdale.”
